once more my computer is broken after 2 weeks of being in the shop and i find this very unaceptable i phoned alienware and they wont take it in we are saying to them "give us our money" or "ship a new one" ,btw this is a new computer that cost a leg and a arm it has a strong graphix card that is at a very high price its a 8800m gtx this hurts because they think we broke it onpurpose to get money out of them in a summary DONT BUY AILIENWARE THEY SUCK!

ok i am editing this post because my last one turned into a argument and it was locked when i got my computer back the put in a 8800 gt or 8700 gt i dont know wich one and i cant check lol! we got a more expensive card to be put in 8800m gtx (very very powerful) when we it was first repaired they repaired it for free because it is still in warranty because i bought it in februrary or march i cant remember this is upseting because now when i phoned them i turned it on to "prove" i just saw it and i got a high pitched ringing and (like a high piched disk getting scrached on the power button and now it has the same problem i think i know why we had it on but i heard no fans they were supposed to fix that they were supposed to replace my graphix card with a better one and they gave me a cheaper one than what i origanly bought now i have a useless computer sitting on the counter and i find this sad that i had only three months to play on it rather than five month do not buy hp or alienware or maybe dell i dont know but dont buy alienware if you want to go through the fire and flames

also we told them we are shiping it back and we never want to see it

Well it all really depends on who he got to repair it in the first instance.
If it wasn't Alienware, his warranty would have been void as soon as the case was opened.
Alienware have no way of telling who has been fiddling around inside the case.

On the other hand, if the PC has just come back from Alienware, I think you are more than entitled to get a new PC, if not some sort of compensation for the trouble.

Stir up as much fuss as possible.

Just keep pestering them. If they don't take your claim, ask to speak to somebody higher up.

Its unfortunate companies tend to do this. Can really loose them some customers.

Today, the water pump for my liquid cooling failed. I wasn't happy about it, was rather annoyed at Thermaltake (the manufacturer) at the time. I sent them an email inquiring about the fault and they were more than happy to help. The replacement is on its way.
Now I hold Thermaltake in very high regard. Going from avoiding their products, to respecting them (and then probably going with their product line in the future), just because of great customer service.

Why don't you go into the shop in person, and confront them face to face? That's what i'd do.

Dell decided not to cheapen the Alienware name by adding Dell to the case. Does the case still have the Alienware seal in place on the back of the case?
I am assuming they do like other manufacturers, though I have never actually looked at one.

If the seal is intact (and exists) then you have stronger standing in the issue. You may also have more legal protections based on where you reside.

Just out of curiosity, what is the problem you are having? won't boot, drive failure, video....?

Making nothing for the forth straight year; or is it five years now?

Bummer. I hope you can get a decent resolution to your problem. It is amazing how much damage an inexpensive part can cause.

Good luck and I'm sorry about your hardware failure.

and what were you doing to the graphics card. Did you overclock it? If so then your warranty would be void

It means you used software to increase the clock speed of the memory or core on your graphics card. Which means your making it do more than it was originally designed to do. Thats why, like 5867dude said, if you overclock it your warrenty is void.

Also i couldn't help noticing your location.

Maybe you might have learnt about some overclocking if you didn't skip it.

Nope, school won't teach you about overclocking. You really would learn more out of school concerning computers.

Technically, it's not necessarily using software to overclock. In many cases people may use hardware means to overclock. And I don't know if I would say adjusting the clock rates in the bios would really be a software overclock. I guess technically it would be

I suppose it may be considered a "firmware overclock".

I wouldn't over clock an expensive graphics card because to me it feels much riskier than over clocking a CPU which I would do since most are specifically designed for this and risk of burning it out is relatively low if you increase slowly whilst checking for temperature changes.

@ Michael P:
I disagree. Lots of graphics card manufacturers sell factory overclocked products, with little or no modifications to the hardware itself. You're just paying for a warranty that convers those extra few megahertz.

Well a lot of companies sell underclocked computers, so sometimes overclocking is good...

What!? Steam still exists!? *shudders*
As soon as you notice a fan breaks (or any hardware), you should replace it. Fans are pretty cheap and well-worth the change because you'll save yourself from burnt hardware (which will in consequence, cost even more money).

If English isn't your first language then fair enough but your posts would be a lot easier to understand if you tried to use punctuation. The only example of this I can find in this thread is your use of exclamation marks.

I don't want to be 'that guy' who points out every little error in a post, I'm definitely not perfect myself, but it sticks out like a sore thumb when somebody has rattled off a whole post without so much as a full stop/period.

That's perfectly fine... but you know what overclocking is!

And puppy 101, if they've messed you about, I honestly think that the best thing to do would be to confront them face-to-face, in the store, and ask them about why they put an 8400M in, instead of an 8800M GTX. Face-to-face, I doubt that they'd say anything but "Oh, sorry, we'll put the correct one in for you."

Although that's in a perfect world.

Sigh... I suppose the only thing to do is just keep pestering them via phone - threaten legal action if you want, that should give them a bit of a shock.

Although, when you contacted them about them putting in the 8400M instead of an 8800M GTX, what exactly did they say? Did they deny that they had put an 8400M in, or did they simply say they thought you ordered an 8400M?
