I’m working on a new game, called Volcanic Winter. The plot follows the Eruption of the Yellowstone "Supervolcano" and its many problems. Here the story…

In the year 2020, the Yellowstone "Supervolcano" erupted. The United States believed that the volcano would not yet erupt, since it showed no signs. They did not take any action to help those in the Area before the eruption. After it erupted, it was to late. Millions of people lost their lives.
Right after, the economy started failing. Many Americans believed that the Nation would not recuperate. They were right. A year later, with over half the American population dead, it was official, America would not restart its economy. Then, The Great Depression of 2021, occurred.
With the American Nation in a depression, one group took this opportunity to attack America. They were only known as the Red Death Army. They said the United States would finally pay for its many causes of war and death. With many Americans dieing of poison air and ash fall, the United States would easily be defeated. Then, Britain came to the rescue.
But, In 2022, right before the soldiers began to head to America, Britain received news that the RDA had begun its attack. With only an Army of 650,000, America would have to defend it self for three days before the SAS could arrive, which would be an advantage to the RDA whom had over 1 million soldiers.

In the game, you play Private John Smith. An American Marine, defending the eastern coast of America. The game takes place in New York, Boston, and Washington D.C.

Here’s a couple screens…

In the First level, you defend the American Navel Base of New York, which the RDA had overrun

Looks very bland. You also need light maps and some custome entitys are always good.

I like the idea of the game, but you really need to work on the game design. Add lights and light sources, tone down the ambient light and try to make the surroundings more believable. Now it seems like a closed platform floating in the middle of nowhere.

tHeStAr01,

Very good start keep it up.

For your subject it is not necessary perhaps to turn down the ambient lighting.

Daytime in real life does not necessarily have any large degree of darkness or contrast of light and shade. There are far too many games where darkness is introduced and its good to see something bright for a change. Darkness is often used to disguise things.

Having said that eventually the introduction of some subtle and clever use of lighting and lightmapping I am sure would help and enhance your subject and your game.

thanks, i might change the start from the roof to inside the base. I have to change it, because the player will enter the building and the enemy group would have shut the power down. Im still working on the story begining though. Thanks again uman.

I'll test it and post what i find

Edit: ok, played it, and here's what I got...

Pro's:
-The menu background image
-not overcrowding the rooms
-the lighting
-the framerate

Cons:
-Floating toilet (least it looked like one)
-that conversation within a PSP window
-increase light intensity, couldn't see destroyable-floor part

and the...*cough*length....*cough*

a nice start

one level = game's done!

yea, it was the dynamic light that messed up the toilet. The psp is until i start recording voices, the floor was there so that the story changes. if you heard the monster, thats the story change.

EDIT: Im gonna start making the level longer.

Good things:
EDIT: i also liked the gun

FPS
Light placement
Entity placement

bad things:
To dark, use the flashlight script, it helps ALOT
shortness
the psp bit was sort of off but not bad.

Overall, not bad at all, keep working on it, this will be a great game to come

If anybody is still intersted in the game. Reason i havent posted any images is because my programs been acting up aswell as my internet. Everything in the programs files have been deleted and my backups dont work. Im gonna start posting screens very soon since the programs starting to work again.
