Often when I look at code in the 20 line challenge, it is over 255 characters in length. Can this be fixed? Do I need to update my DBC version?

thats because their usually written for dbp and the 255 letter limit error is normal for dbc

Either that, or the DBC users can`t count to 255 or read the error "Line exceeds 255 characters in length!"
