Recently i've been having a few problems trying to get DarkPhysics to run in hardware mode. I have an ATI radeon X1600 and a PhysX card (orginally by Ageia).

Well, it seems with my current setup and NVidia's latest drivers i'll never be able to use hardware mode (even though I have a PPU).

I started to look around on the internet and then found this:
http://gizmodo.com/5020413/ati-radeon-graphics-cards-running-nvidia-physx-are-faster-stronger-awesomer

A group of people have modified Nvidia PhysX drivers to support the ATI 3800 HD. Which is good news for people like me who may upgrade to that card or already have it. It would also seem that Nvidia has agreed to the idea of 3rd Parties porting PhysX to other graphics cards other than Geforce, which I think is a good move on their part.

For those who like solid information, heres a few more sources:

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-physx-ati,5764.html

http://www.pcw.co.uk/personal-computer-world/news/2157675/ati-launches-physx

http://news.softpedia.com/news/ATI-Graphics-Cards-to-Get-PhysX-Support-88761.shtml

I also found on the internet that the reason PhysX runs well on Radeons is because before Nivida bought out Ageia, ATI were working with them to support PhysX on their latest radeon gpus.

EDIT:
The title of the thread was supposed to say ATI with PhysX.

Personally I think it sucks that physics is going to GPU's, it totally limits choice. Sadly it seems that theres a split forming cuasing personalized rigs to be more like consoles, you either have ATi GPU and AMD CPU, with Havok, or you have NVidia with PhysX, and chances are if you have NV, you arent an AMD fan so will go with Intel CPU, just like an Xbox 360 or PS3 have their own specific hardware.

I'd preffer to see the PPU's on their own cards like Ageia initially started off, but with a common system for any gpu manufacturer to use, just like ATi and NVidia use DirectX and OpenGL, both being governed by 3rd parties, multiple PPU's from different manufacturers being designed to use Havok and PhysX would give the consumer more choice, but with NV taking PhysX (despite allowing 3rd party use) the technologic step has already been taken in the opposite (and IMO wrong) direction.

Well I have 8800GT with 7.15.11.7735 driver version and it works fine for me
Not sure what Official info you looked at but heres an NVIDIA linkhttp://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_learn_products.html
The only additional thing I did that wasn`t mentioned was to download the CUDA driver from here http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html - just select OS, click search and download option one
Friend of mine has an 8800GTX which he bought when it was first released. Apparently he can`t use hardware mode as that core isn`t yet supported even though it has CUDA support, later versions of the 8 series have an improved core, which is what I have. He wasn`t too happy!! I`ll ask him the details later when I see him and I`ll edit this post.

Edit : Well, I`ve spoken with my friend who reckons his core is G80 (mine is G92). He is gonna reinstall to check as his drivers are one week old.

well another forum i look at says u need 177.39 driver + the physX driver to make the radio button in the nvidia control panel show up, then u can select it. I know it doesn't work on 177.35 cause i got that driver and the physX driver and no option for it

Do you know which core it is? You could use GPUZ(free) to find out. Radio button - is this a circle with a selectable bullet? If it is, then mine doesn`t appear in nvidia control panel, but in the physx properties panel.
I`m not saying your wrong about your card not yet working as the drivers are still in beta - my friends card still isn`t running in hardware mode, but he can confirm that the physx properties panel choice for Geforce Physx is there but just ghosted - after your reply to my first post here, I checked out your profile and found the answer to my question on what card you had. As its the same as mine I was attempting to enlighten you as to the possible reason why - the core model, an 8800gt can have a g80, g84 or g92, there may be more - was your card purchased around that threads date(show-off your pc) - if it was it should be one of the improved cores like mine, mine works fine, actually I got quadcore and all dbp demos run faster using hardware mode! This is one impressive card imo. Maybe you can see why I can`t understand why those drivers don`t work for you. Btw I read on nvidia forum that support for g8x cores might arrive as late as september.

Edit:
Quote: "an 8800gt can have a g80, g84 or g92,"
from this post - actually I meant just 8800, you can see what I mean if you examine the 3rd column from the left for 8 series here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_Graphics_Processing_Units#GeForce_8_series

Edit2:actually hadn`t seen that last link till yesterday, I was tired, and somehow missed the fact that release dates affect the graphics card model with regards to what core they have. i.e all 8800GT`s have G92 core therefore your card should work in hardware mode with the 177.35 drivers as mine does.
