It appears that the high dudes at HP feel this is the future of personal computing. I doubt it, but it's fun to see anyway. Meet the touchscreen smartphone XXL: the HP TouchSmart desktop PC.

You know. I actually really really like that. It's very small overall so if space is an issue this is a great looking computer to have if you're just interested in basic computer usage (media center type stuff). It's very stylish and sleek (lol, I just realized they say that in the ad video when I accidentally clicked it a second time ) as well so that's a plus. Looks relatively portable, no lugging a big old case around and stuff.

Downside is that it's probably not really upgradable or expandable aside from maybe replacing ram or adding USB peripherals and whatever, much like a laptop. It probably lacks in the video card area so it's probably not too great for gaming. I can't seem to find any actual specs. The software looks pretty nice.

As far as a touchscreen goes, I probably wouldn't use it much. Just seems to tiring. Nothing like reclining back in the office chair and using a keyboard and mouse after a tough day of work... that's exactly what I'm doing now haha.

It looks neat but also seems impractical.

I don't understand where HP thinks it's going with this. I can still move my mouse faster and do more with it than I can with my hand. How do you right click for instance? Even where voice technology is now you can pretty much work faster with that than this. Microsoft Sync is more useful than this IMO. It's a nice monitor though, thats for sure.

I personally don't think touch screens have any future in computers. Sure, they'd be cool for some games and stuff, and maybe videos and music, but really I think that touch screens should stick to handheld devices, like phones and mp3 players.

A touch screen computer would be awesome in the kitchen as a cooking aid, for viewing and storing recipes. You wouldn't have to have a mouse floating around on the counter for instance, or a keyboard. All on screen controls mounted in the wall or fridge or counter for instance. There's some good implementations for touch screens in our every day lives and the kitchen is just one of them.

That's probably it - they might be trying to innovate in media stations, trying to make it simple, you know family photos, music and movies etc.

Though for movies I'm sure people prefer a remote and that's why Windows Media Centre already works and the Mac equivalent.

I think this TouchSmart would be really cool set up along with your TV / sound system as sort of a control hub for displaying / playing your music, photos, streaming / downloaded media, etc.

I'll agree with that. That would be pretty neat.
