...Guitar hero clone? My friend uses Game maker pro, and I (of course) use DBPro. He's been trying to make a 2-D GH clone for a while, and he just started over on a fresh attempt. So I thought it would be fun to see who could get one song (Bulls on parade) to be fully playable first. He has about a two day head start on me, (because he started a day before me AND I have school today. He's out of school.) but I think I can beat him to the finish.
But my original question was: has anyone else done this already? If so, I probaly wont do the whole game and just do the one song for our little race.

Yeah, there is an open source one but I think the controls are horrid (just used to using a guitar I guess).

Ya, it's Frets on Fire. With the Alarian Mod it looks virtually identical to Guitar Hero.

You can download rips of all GH1, GH2, GH3, GH80s, and RB songs, and you can use any wired Guitar controller. The pic above is me palying Cliffs of Dover. I looovee that song.

Really? I've known about Frets on fire for a while, but I didn't know that was made with DarkBasic.
Or was it made with something else?
To be more clear on my question: Has anyone HERE sucessfully made a GH clone?

Which question are you answering "no" to?
Was it made with something else?
OR
Has anyone HERE successfully made a GH clone?

It was made with something else, and I've seen plenty of rhythm games in the WIP section of the boards, just not a direct GH clone.

If someone says plz because it's shorter than please I say no because it's shorter than yes

Frets was probably written in C++, but that's not to say that DBPro couldn't handle it.

If you have some music software like Fruity Loops, then it would be easier to come up with songs for it, because you could split the song into 2 MP3 files, one guitar, one for everything else - plus you would know the BPM of the song. The scary bit I think would be getting the button layout data in there, plus the need for 2 versions of the song, so you could mix between them to filter out the guitar when things go wrong. DBPro would of course support the xPlorer guitar and probably the Rock Band guitar as well, using the standard XBox controller driver for windows.

FOF was made with Python using pygame, I think.

Hardly anyone has succeeded in making a game here at all. I'm surprised to even see this question. Have all of the mods even made a game? That should be a requirement for becoming a mod, making a good game in any genre.

The same games have been showcased on the front page for years, which helps me confirm that talent and dedication only passes through this place about once or twice every 10 years.

Most, if not all, of the mods here have made games that are in the showcase. That being said, mods are not *only* chosen because they made a kickass game. There are other things that mods have to do on this forum than show off their technical skills. Just take a look at all the locked threads to get see what kinds of things we deal with.

EDIT:

More likely TGC doesn't update the gallery often enough. What's with the attitude?

I'm sure you'll agree that's a-given...considering a lot of good games have been released since then. Such as games from competitions they've had so far. There are decent, dedicated projects in progress like Geisha House and Pirates of Port Royale - they've been in progress for a long time because the developers have normal lives to get on with and their projects are big.

Failed projects tend to come either from a lack of perception or something getting in the way. The of perception can come on your skill level, what you've got availible to you or the time you have to give on it. Smaller, simpler projects come out more often - the 'Nutt' games scored well with forum dwellers because the concept was simple enough for the person to focus on programming. If, like me you're one of those attempting to tackle all elements on your own, then there's little hope for you until you have a toolset you can work with successfully, are able to stick at it and can cope with the work.

Other projects are WIPs and you can't expect them to have a spotlight in the finished projects area.

Then you haven't checked the Program Announcements board recently, because I just finished Starnaut a few weeks ago

and I could have swore I saw someone looking into making a Guitar Hero clone, but I'm not sure. do a search in the DBP board and you might find something...

I've just had a pissy day guys sorry. Please forgive me. More like a pissy week really. A lot of crap has happened and I'm sorry I picked here to release.

I know a lot of time and talent and dedication goes into making the games here, and I know many of us have our pipe dreams and sorry to have taken that away a little.
