I just saw the new game dev engine by TGC, Realm Crafter. If you don't know about it yet, it basically allows us to make MMORPG's. Oh, will this shut up those noobs on FPSC forums trying to make MMO's. Read te newsletter. It's all in there.

Woots for TGC!

If it feels good, it's a sin.

And if anything it's not gonna shut up the noobs, instead they'll fill the WIP board with thousands of 5-minute games that are all identical.

90% of statistics are completely inaccurate.

Their "forum" points right to our forums and there's no Realm Crafter section. So yes, get ready for a flood of 5 minute MMO's in WIP.

I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro!

Let me tell you this, Realm Crafter is going to make you even a basic MMO at the same rates as FPSC will make you pop corn.
I used to play around with RC and I can tell you that it's just another FPSC but for MMO's, it won't make you anything spectacular, although I have seen one game that was ORIGINALLY made with RC but then moved to another engine that was awesome.
It'll just be another "OMGLET 1 CAN M4kE GaMeX0RRR!!! M4kE mE sTuFF NOOBCAKES" software

If someone says plz because it's shorter than please I say no because it's shorter than yes

Osiris they will as well, don't know how but internet idiots seem to find ways of asking for everything
Not saying everyone using any "easy" game creator is an idiot, just for the real idiots out there using them.

Yeah, I noticed RC as well last night at midnight... while I was waiting for the newsletter that hasn't yet come out... *hint* *hint*

I downloaded the demo of it a long time ago and played with it. Iyt looked cool, but I lost interest. There isn't nearly enough media for enough of the n00blings to make games even look the tinniest bit different. And they don't yet have the amount of quality media packs that FPSC is lucky enough to have. So your still going to get stuck where almost every MMORPG will:

1) Story line, game economy, ect. No n00bs, there is not yet a random story line generator attached.
2) Custom media. Get ready to work just as hard, if not harder.

Realm Crafter is a cool engine in my opinion, listen be luck for how cheap media is around here because over at realm crafter they charge around $30 a character, and there not that great. In Know Apocalypse was made with RC and become popular. So i think the engine is a fun cool engine and i really like it. its a buy.

I made a thread about this months ago.

I have had it for years, It is very cool. But the band thing is if you wanna make a very big game with tons of players, you need a server.

Well, someday a rich noobling will come along and find a server then the fabric of space and time will tear and unleash hell on these forums as noobs come rushing in to do what that lucky larvae noob had done. The sun will not shine for many days however a blood red moon shall...blood red.

this engine is pretty cruddy, movement is shocky, the main menu is bland, the options are crap and the scripting is buggy and limited... Any other points I can crack down, oh yes... It runs on DX8 and looks like crap.

Realm Crafter: An exciting engine that allows you to create your own worlds. Vast and magnificent. And empty. And oh so lonely...all by yourself. Alone. Forever.

In the newsletter, they told about how TGC is giving away fpsc, but the logo above it says fpscX10... kinda misleeding.

Even though I love the engine and everything I am against TGC selling it on their site. There are gonna be a lot of 9 year olds on the forums making topics like:

"ME new GamE!!!!!!!!!!! ITS A MMORPG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

To make a good a decent game in Realm Crafter, it takes years of development. And plus if you want a ton of people playing your game at the same time, your gonna need a server, which do not come cheap. Renting a server can cost as much as $100 a month for a decent one. So people are gonna be excited being able to make an mmorpg, but then their dreams are gonna shatter when they check into server prices. But a server is a MUST if you want your game to become popular. The forums are gonna be overrunned with Noobs.

I want the makers of this to get more money because its a great engine for such a low price, and plus you don't have to pay them a dime if you make a commercial game, but the more popular it becomes, the more noobs we are gonna get.

Actually, it runs on DX7, the movement is only choppy cause of the model animations, the menu is editable, you can use the source code, if you know blitz, to do anything you want it to within reason.

Try walking with it, you'll feel it responds shocky and crappy...

And Blitz also costs some more money, so you pay $100 and then you still can't edit the source...

We know that, but RC2 looks better, but they release very little info on it.

I feel all RC-topics should be redirected at the FPSC board, so that they, too, are given the opportunity to experience how it feels to have the boards cluttered with average-two-click crap. That is, until the creation of RC boards, where FPSC and Dark* type of people can go for a good laugh every now and then.

It's the original FPSC

The logo above it shows X10 and the original FPSC. The emblem in the article shows you it's original FPSC (it has the product logo on it), not X10.

RC is junk you might pass with a game somewhat cool but it still won't even be near what you would get if you would actually work to make it.

If someone says plz because it's shorter than please I say no because it's shorter than yes

ye - this has already been covered but TGC didn't make RC - just look at the bottom of the RC pages:
Quote: "Licensed for official sale by The Game Creators Ltd.
Realm Crafter is © Solstar Games 2004 - 2008"

it's been around for ages.

Realmcrafter is a alright engine, im currently making a Sci Fi mmorpg so none of the default crap, but im waiting for RCPRO ( NOT RC2!!) Untill we put anything into the engine, then eventually once we have a playable demo we want to try and get funding.

im not another noob trying to make a game and think sony will sponsor me for my epic lulz idea of two default races and 3 epic classes and over 100 weapons, OMG.

Although the 9 year olds, being like I wana make a epic mmorpG, i cant program model or draw, but i have a cool story do ruin it for those who wish to make a seriouis game with the Realmcrafter engine.

My MMORPG: http://green-man.pbwiki.com or check out the forums at http://mechtech.webmmorpg.net

Let's stop this elitist noob talk, people who purchased software
from TGC have all the same right to post on the forums.
I wouldn't go so far to call people idtiots or noobs for using click and play types of game creators. Every one started some where, others maybe don't grasp coding or don't have the time to learn it.
I know of the plenty "I want to make a MMO" posts, and I don't know
which is more amusing, the actual post or the many "reactions" which are posted afterwards. Some people seem to get "offended" on a personal level by such posts.
Anyway...first time I heard about Realmcrafter was in some Promotion on a website which I unfortunately don't remember. Featured was a lady who has been developing her MMO in RC for quiet some time. She seemed pretty popular in the RC community. Sure the game didn't look spectacular, but for her it was the easiest thing to use. Maybe RC is the dream come true for some people.
