I was just wondering, has any one here actualy gotten
Morrowind to work? This game looks wonderful (Better then
Daggerfall even ) but it Freezes/Locks-up on my machine alot!

(Mostly in combat, but it has frozen just about every where,
I've only been able to get out of the first town once before
it froze. )

(With this much freezing the game's unplayable.)

Weee! Another Enlightened Morrowind Player!

OK, first of all:

Get Morrowind FPS Optimizer. www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind has it. It has a ton of speed aids.

Have you used the lighting .ini speed trick? If you haven't I'll explain.

Set the line 'Dontthreadload' to 1 in your .ini file.

In your .ini file, find the max number of ripples in the water, and lower it. Lower the max amount of raindrops in different types of weather; slightly lower your water FPS. Since Morrowind dosen't clip objects you are looking at the water whenever you look down outdoors, and looking at ripples whenever you look down and it's raining outdoors... that damages speed.

Good luck .

Btw, you played Daggerfall? Amazing! (I still do...)

Alright, here's how it went *opens notepad and edits
the .ini, while yelling "Work!" SpellSword inserts the
dreaded Morrowind CD into his CD-Rom, with a whirring sound
it begins to spin and soon Morrowind is loaded... afew
clicks later at the load menu
(Which is all white? No text?
Thats screwy, but I can still click the saved game, if I
can find it... In game this menu is fine, it's just screwed
over at the main menu.) SpellSword selects his saved game
and is almost instantly plunged into a dark cave, there's a
sound behind him. The Nix-Hound charges defiently as a
steel saber arcs towards it... the Nix-Hound lies dead on
the ground, no crashes so far, this is good! Racing through
the cave SpellSword quickyl applies a shield spell to
himself,
(Which doesn't crash the game! YEAH!) entering a
large room with a platform suppened by varius pillars and
ladders SpellSword spies a red robed fiend, most likly a
mage. Screaming his battlecry SpellSword leaps forth
scalling the ladder in seconds and slashing the robed mage
savagly, in response the mage desides to throw some fire at
his attacker. Several blows are exchanged and the game has
yet to crash or freeze! Out of mana and near death the
mage quickly grabs the axe in his belt and lands a hit on
SpellSword with a sickening crunch. Fatiged SpellSword
collapses but manadges to regain his footing before
another blow can be struck, the two combatents dance
around the room for awhile attacking and evading with
amazing skill. The mage is crippled, one more hit will
finish him and SpellSword knows it, dashing forward
he brings his blade up to deliver the final blow.
Despratly the mage swings his axe at SpellSword and
manages to land a hit... the screen goes dark... a
blinking light informs me that there is no signal,

(It's odd, it usaly just leaves a the last frame frozen on
the screen.) Morrowind's combat music plays in the
background taunting me, for it has frozen again...*

THE QUEST FOR ANTI-FREEZE CONTINUES!

First off, get both the patches, they help massively (www.elderscrolls.com).

Have many of those tips did you try?

Did you get MW FPS Optimizer?

And most importantly... what are your system specs?

I run Morrowind at around 8-10 FPS, which I can live with (because it's Morrowind), on a 1Ghz AMD Athalon/384MB Memory/...

WAIT

I think I might know what could help.

There is a famous crashing problem with certain video cards!

What's yours?

Both Patches?
(I'm patched with the new one, there are two???)

My System:
P4
ATI Radien 7200
Sound Blaster Live Value
256 Ram
MotherBoard... (Not sure what brand/type O_o)
Hard-Drive Space (More then enough, I've got atleast 10G's
in my primary system drive [C:\])

Did you get MW FPS Optimizer?
No (I'll get it if it's vital)

Have many of those tips did you try?
1.
Set the line 'Dontthreadload' to 1 in your .ini file.

2.
I found alot on rain and water, but I didn't mess with it.
(Since my save game was indoors I decided to skip that until
I made it outa the cave.)

K... go to http://morrowind.nm.ru/ and get Morrowind FPS Optimizer (from a mirror link, his sight is slow). It helps TONS.

The main thing is however, you really need to upgrade your RAM. I got a 256 chip (only around 65 USD) to add to my 128 chip and since then I have had crashes only once every 15 or so playing sessions (which normally last hours each), and then it's a clean Crash to Desktop and I can start playing again.

Have fun
