I'm using Character FX to animate my little Kung Fu dude and I've hit a bit of a problem. Even though I've been cursing DBP for not supporting spline interpolation of skeletal animation, it's actually causing me a problem when I try to animate my character doing a backflip.

I can't really describe the problem, but if you've any experience of keyframing, then you'll know what would happen if I tried to make a character rotate through 360 degrees.

Any animators know of a work around? Thanks...

Um how about make 3 keyframes each rotating 120 deg in the direction you want?

Hmmmm, shame Simple does'nt seem to be around today, but I suggest tweening every 45 degrees - Like animate him doing a 180 flip, then from there to the full flip. This should stop him doing weird stuff or cutting corners with the auto-tweening.

VanB - I think I got that far, but I seem to remember it being a little more difficult than that. I rotated him using the "root bone" which resides, comically enough, between his legs. He therefore didn't pivot around his centre, but around the end of his root bone *stiffled giggles*.

I'll try that again tonight - a more structured approach...

Incidentally, it's for a remake of IK+... I think I'll call it IK++, although I think I'd probably run into problems with that name. I'm open to donations of fighter dudes.

Cool - I love IK+!!!

I still play it on STeem on my Laptop.
Good luck, I could probably help with a limbed model, but mesh animation is greek to me.

If you imagine that it's animating like someone's picking him up by his feet, then that's how it looks. It's hard to describe...

OK, I've found that I don't have to use the root bone to flip him, which means I can now rotate him around his waist. Cool...

but the spline interpolation means he does it in stages, because the character movement slows down slightly at each keyframe.

any advice?

----------------------------------------------------------

I tweaked the keyframes just before I left for work and I figure if I sneakily put the keyframes around where he'd be still(ish) anyway, it won't be so bad.
