So have you heard?
If you pay with your credit card you get charged EXTRA.
Apparently they have a usage fee stapled along with the use of credit card when you pay for gas.
Like Visa will charge you like an extra 2% service charge.
Gas is already $4.05 a gallon for regular.

See here for more details!

Quit complaining. You should be glad it isn't over $8 a gallon (£1 or so per litre) like it is here.

Wouldn't it be illegal to have the prices change when you swipe your card? Not everyone will notice it.

Over here in California, when I pay with my card, it tells me that a 45 cent service fee will be charged, at which point i can accept or decline. It's been like that for as long as I can remember.

When I had my job driving up and down California, I also noticed plenty of stations would advertise a cash price and a card price for a gallon of gas.

And these words which I command you today shall be on your heart.

That doesn't matter at all. It's 17 cents in Venezuela. Because our gas is cheap to you, it's expensive to us. We rely on gas so much you don't know what you're talking about. People are stealing gas trucks they are so desperate. They are buying hoses and going around siphoning gas out of vehicles. The crime rate has increased because of the price of gas here. We don't have train stations like Europe does. God only knows why. Train stations like that would be our savior. I can't stand when other people from different countries say, "stop complaining, our gas is way more expensive."

@Saikoro

That is technically against the rules for Visa and Mastercard. You should report them. I just read a big article today on the Consumerist about that crap:

Gas is bad everywhere. It is $4.45+ up where I live. I usually take the bus every where. I is like $2 for me to take a bus to Seattle which is about an hour away. That is a lot cheaper than it would cost for the gas. Especially in traffic and things like that. Washington has the highest gas tax of all the states.

@Jeku

I notice that the article mentions "Credit Card", but what if it's being used as a debit card? I wonder if the same rules apply.

@DBking

What is the purpose of telling people to "stop complaining"? In a democracy, our system of government benefits from and in fact is dependent on complaining. If no one were to complain, then nothing would get changed. I can't recall any instance in which people followed inaction and got something out of it. That mindset may work in a communist country, but not here.

Our gas prices are rising too and to a point where it's overly expensive too, £1.20 a litre is the current price, I remember it wasn't that long ago it was 80p per litre, so per litre it has gone up 40p, so we're paying out more than we normally would as well. Public transport doesn't get you everywhere you need or for the right price.

Though like us, you have the right to complain, I mean if I complain about our government and somebody from Korea steps in and says "You can't complain, you have a democracy, your goverment doesn't mind what country you go to or what you say, ours does" then I wouldn't be disallowed the right to complain about it.

Though our gase prices may be much higher and that's relative to our lifestyle, economy and the vehicles we use, we still have a problem. It seems having larger cars and relying so much on cars may have a lot of American's shot in the foot and panicking more for gas and this is probably why there's an emphasis now on alternative power methods and with this, fresh new ones coming out the problem looks like it'll eventually be solved. For now, it means a temporary solution needs to be made so that people can afford to get from A to B - or people will need to make sacrifices/ration their fuel until we all can run whatever cars dominate the fight for 'the fuel solution'. If Air cars become affordable, aren't fugly and can reach 120mph, then I'm sure it's a solution that may catch on.

I've only noticed it at certain gas stations, and they let you know up-front that it'll cost a few cents more per gallon if you pay with a credit card. Actually, they say they have a "cash discount", but same thing really. You can't blame the gas stations at all as they have to pay the credit card fees.

Gasoline is $4.29/gallon here, and $4.98 for diesel. My brother has a diesel truck(Chevy Duramax) with a 60 gallon tank, so it's a $300 fill-up. (He doesn't drive it as much as he used to...)

You also have to realize that out here in the western USA, we have to do a lot of traveling to get from one place to another. We have virtually no public transportation.
