Hi, I own a fat psp. Recently, I realized i was a psp nooob and thought upgrading to better firmware was good. Now i have 4.01 and I am trying to get an ir shell but i dont think it will work on 4.01

So, I figured the only way is a pandora battery, which turns it back to 1.5

Should I just buy a new psp? Or what should I do?

Please help!

- the nub who needs help P.S thanks

Well, the new PSP you would buy probably has the latest firmware. However i think you can only revert back now if you have the PSP 1.5 firmware files on hand.

Nope. I made my own Pandora's Battery easy, its quite simple. Look it up on youtube to find away to make a Pandoras Battery and Magic Memory stick without having to have custom firmware. Hope this helped,

Some PSP's can't me modded... Since their motherboard has a protection built into it, The more recent are harder to do something with, Unless you want to screw up your battery, and overheat the whole thing.

Just buy datel tool battery.. And make sure you have Memory Stick Pro Duo that is bigger than 256mb and make sure its PRO! So you can make magic memory stick..

I made this myself using Datel Tool Battery and Memory Stick Pro Duo 4gb

I just have a very old PSP(One of the first to be released over here) and I hacked its firmware... Alot safer since Its easier to Unbrick the firmware, then to send your whole PSP to sony, and try to explain how the battery is suddenly modified.

A pandora's battery cannot be reverted back (unless you modified the firmware on the battery, rather than snipping the pins), and can't be used for normal usage. So you need a second battery.

I wouldn't recommend downgrading (cuz then you can't necessarily play newer games), just wait for a new version to be released.

If you haven't installed custom firmware yet, you're probably installing the most recent version of m33, but you can only install the most recent version if you already have 3.60 of the custom firmware or later installed (i think that's the version number).

So if I understand the process right, you have to install an earlier version of M33, and upgrade a couple times till you get to 4.01 (or whatever version you're looking to get).

I haven't done any of this yet, I've been doing a lot of research on the subject as I'm getting a PSP in a couple days, and will be sticking custom firmware on there

Like i said just buy datel tool battery and memory stick pro duo 256mb or bigger.

Then create magic memory stick using PC put the memory stick into your psp and then put the battery into psp.. Now psp starts itself. And press x to install custom firmware.

After that i suggest upgrading to Custom Firmware version 4.01-2.

Also Pandora can be used as normal usage. Just install boosters code and pandora is like normal battery.

Note: After you installed custom firmware you can format the magic memory stick and it works as normal memory stick then.

I own both PSP and DS and i love both consoles homebrew. And ive had fun playing Quake together using PSP, DS and Computer

Ohh neat. I would be a bit hesitant if you made your own pandora's battery by removing the pin. This is because after you modify the battery like that, from what I understand the PSP can no longer monitor the battery life or temperature and stuff like that.

Anyways, you can get a used battery for about 15 bucks at a resale shop, check around, may be worth just modifying one and keeping it around as a backup in case you brick your PSP.

As you can tell, I'm pretty excited to get my new PSP

Also, I think you'll need to get 4.01-1 before you can update to M33-2. On the plus side, it sounds like once you install 4.01-1, you can just upgrade from the regular updater on the PSP.

Yes, but you don't need to spend the big bucks if you don't want, it looks pretty easy to modify an existing battery. Just remember that if you modify your only battery, you may run into troubles, you'd probably want a second one to tamper with.

Its better to buy. Because i dunno if boosters code works with modifed battery. And also when you cut the pin you cant run games what ive heard.

Also if you ever brick your PSP you can always unbrick it with Pandora.

Normal battery is really easy to open. Just use some not so sharp knife or guitar pick or something

But i had battery with my PSP i openned it.. And for my unluck it was too new version and there wasnt tutorial on net wich pin to cut.. So thats it, i broke it and now im using only Datel Tool Battery with boosters code.

So keep in mind there is batterys wich dont have tutorials.

I wouldn't use your regular battery, for reasons I said above.

Here's a guide:

The datel battery has it's own firmware that makes the battery boot the psp into recovery mode, nothing to do with the psp's firmware.

And as we've said, the pandora's battery and majik stick will allow you to downgrade any psp and any version.

No, the only thing the custom battery does is allow the PSP to boot into recovery mode. After which you can use the memory card to install the software.

Oh right, well that thing you linked to, looks like it'll set your psp to the newest firmware, not 1.50. However, I think the newest M33 release offers 1.50 emulation or some sort of compatibility if you download the "1.50 Kernel addon for 4.01. (Version 1)" http://www.dark-alex.org/index_psp.php

At least, from what I understand. Again, this part is still sort of beyond me.

How it works is you download a custom firmware booter and you have all the firmwares you want, and what you do is emulate them. I had that before I stopped using custom firmware, I had 1.5 technically, but using the booter I could have whatever firmware I wanted emulated. Thus playing any game or even using the internet browser.

He's telling you to stop double posting Anyway, you should look this stuff up on wikipedia and look up guides and stuff. You'll need to have a better understanding of this whole process before you should attempt installing custom firmware on your PSP.

I was looking into downgrading a while ago...the safest route for the firmware I currently have was to use a copy of Lumines, which I didn't have. Never got around to buying it.

No. Period, if you want a custom ANYTHING on the PSP you NEED either custom firmware or hacked official firmware. Sorry to say but if you don't know what those are or cant find/figure them out on your own then its probably something you should not do.
