I recently found THE best free host. It's called HelioHost

- It supports just about everything:
(php, mysql, asp.net, C-Panel, FTP, phpMyAdmin, CGI, Perl, Ruby, FrontPage extensions, email accounts.

- It has excellent forums (HelioNet.org)

- You earn 'Helions' by posting on the forums and reviewing HelioHost, and when you get a certain amount, you can buy different things.

- You can buy (using Helions only) a proper domain name.

- You get interest on Helions if you put them in the 'bank' on the forums.

- This month has 0% down-time.

- Four plans:
Posting standard
It costs 250 Helions a month (25 posts), you get no ads, 1.5gb bandwidth, etc.

Posting Plus
It costs 1000 Helions a month (100 posts), you get no ads, 2.5gb bandwidth, etc.

Ads standard
Ads, 1.5gb bandwidth, etc. <-- Currently ads have been removed so you may as well get this one!

Ads Unlimited
Ads, 2.5gb bandwidth, etc.

Also, the name sounds good, so subdomain names also sound good
eg. www.diggsey.heliohost.org

Has anyone seen this before?

Nice find, especially the buying domain names with helions thing.

How many guns do you keep in your 'workspace' Diggsey?

This is an interesting one, But the Helions system seems kindof suspicious to me... But hey, Can't judge them for no reason.

I can't imagine making 100 'useful' posts a month, even 25 is almost 1 per day for the month. Not that I should be complaining because free is free.

It's a good marketing trick. Some time in the future, they will add paid plans. By then, they will have a forum with tens of thousands of posts, all saying how good a host they are.

@Batvink
I doubt it, seeing as the web-master is very active on the forum himself, and actually asks everybody before he does anything! For example, when he needed to put ads somewhere he made a poll for us to pick where we thought was best!

Do you know if it supports FFMPEG encoding?

If it does... it's the host for me.

That's not what's great about it... What's great is that it supports so many server-side things, and allows you to get an actual domain name (NOT subdomain name, a proper domain name!) for only posts!

Er, did I miss something? You earn Helions by posting - but the standard plan costs 250 Helions. How do you get 250 Helions in the first place???

Otherwise it seems worth a visit.

10 Helions per post = 25 posts.

You probably just sign up for an account, use the forums, then when you have enough helions you unlock the hosting space / bandwidth.
