Hello

Is it possible to create a script that would write a short file onto the user's hard drive so that a 3rd party application could pickup on this file, read the contents in it and act as a sort of progress tracker

any views or help on this are widely appriciated

NO.

Writing to a file from the FPI scripts is not possible at this time as far as I know.

Using a third party launcher would give you the ability to create/write to a file whenever the game is run, but alas, no - we have no way to pass internal program information to a file. That would be a sweet update though.

Best.

so the best thing to do would be to use an FPI script to make a preset code appear on the screen, and the user keys this into the 3rdPA.

I suppose its best for me to tell you that im designing a game that has 6 "chapters" each of which is a seperate build exe game. i was going to use this function (if it exsisted) in conjunction with a VB application i had made to only unlock the next chapter once an FPI scrript was run at the end of the pervious chapter.

alas, maybe not!

cheers anyway lads/lass's - ill have to approach this from a different angle

With a little bit of DBP know-how, altering the source to output certain internal FPSC information to a file can easily be achieved. I created a Mod that did exactly that for someone a while back. It's not at all hard to accomplish, just a bit time consuming to find the right places in the source to place your code.

Creating FPI commands to output information to a file could also be a viable option and just as easily implemented.

I believe Empty's Mod actually does this, along with 2 sets of global variables. I read through the README last night.

@Mad Ngihtmare:

I sold the Mod, in it's entirety, so I no longer have the right to distribute that Mod.
