oooh, nice favs. Especially favorite 'badnd' and favorite RPG. Yeah for Morrowind!!! You are a good person. lol

Quote: "And yeesh, everyone on TGC likes metal lol."

I'm not a fan of metal specifically... I just like good music and metal just happens to be good, is it coincidence? I don't know. I like lot's of other stuff too but I must say that many of the bands listed by myself and others wouldn't be called metal (well, not in my book atleast).

Well... No, my name IS actually 'sinisterstuf' not 'Sinister Stuff', a misspelling resulting from the former having too many characters with no spaces in between

Quote: "I'm with Dink. I don't care how "rawk" you are... the people who hate "conformists" conform more than anyone I've ever seen, lol."

I conform to my tastes...does that make me a conformist... Bugger, we're all bloody conformists.

I use the label 'metaller' or 'mosher' because aside from 'geek/swat/boffin' it's the best fitting one. I listen to a lot of metal a like the colour black - I buy band t-shirts because I love the bands or because they look cool. This whole Goth looks, bondage trousers? Piercings etc. Nah...no way. As for 'metal', not strictly speaking, I just finished listening to Pink Floyd (Progressive Rock), earlier I was listen to Robben Ford (blues) and yesterday the Rolling Stones. If you catch me on a certain day you might find me listen to the Gladiator Soundtrack or even Pavorotti.

And to be honest that's the way I like it and think it's an attitude you should always have - I've known people, to list the most hardcore metal to make themselves look cool - there's some black metal out there I love, but I wouldn't put 'Mayhem' on my list to look cool.

I think conformity in the metal world makes you look bad to the non-conformists...why do you think Emos and some goths (goths I know do not fit into any descriptions here) aren't always taken seriously?

But on the topic of conformists, this reminds me of a non-conformist website saying "Don't conform to the iPod, it's not that great, this MP3 is much better, so buy it instead" - or along those lines...I hope it was a joke or a sense of irony, otherwise

Anyway, I ought to do a list:

Favourite RTS: Dawn of War
Favourite RPG: Final Fantasy VII
Favourite Adventure Game: Secret of Monkey Island
Favourite FPS: Half Life 2
Favourite Puzzle Game: Push Over
Favourite Arcarde Game: Echoes (come on, it's brilliant!)

Why let it bother you? It's just different than you're used to. Should they let it bother them if someone approaches them in a sweather and khakis? No it shouldn't. It's just clothes ^_^ They just happen to be made differently...

I dunno some people let silly things bother them like that. I'd hang out with anyone from any social group as long as they're good people.

I can't help it, strange people (or people that appear strange) just bother me for some reason . It's not so much the fact that they are wearing that, it's the message that it sends and the fact that it seems basically to me a cry for attention, which I don't like.

I don't have a pet tiger, lol

I have a pet dog who is great, and so he has to come under my favourites... but big cats are also really cool, so Tigers (the best of all imo )have to be joint favourite too, for different reasons.

If I did have a tiger, I would make sure he only eats other annoying breeds of dog when he/she fancied a canine snack

Well strange is a very general and relative term. I don't mind certain strange stuff, it's just really weird stuff that I don't like, like furries or like people that dress like punks because they are trying to send some message. What is the advantage to dressing punk? Comfortable? Not anymore than something more normal. Attractive? Not at all. So why?

Don't worry Gil, I believe you, you just forgot to take a screeny yourself, so you try to rectify the scores, just badly. Rami's the real cheater, shame on him.

Also, Rokkitball is fun, except I'm probably worse than Rami at it.

I think it's as Matt and Dink have said, it's conformity to a specific style (amsuingly, 'Punk', or at least the real and original Punk was against conformity) people ought to dress as they like - what they want to wear, what they think makes them look good, except if they're trying to present themselves - to 'score' with another person, then it's good to look attractive, in an interview you want to look smart. However there are people that find this look attractive, I know girls that fall for guys dressed like that. It's mad, I know.

Punk people are everywhere here.

And I'm sick of people who complain about screaming music and hip hop and people who dress like punks and have mohawks and stuff. You all are just old fashioned and sound like the rest of my family. Screaming is really difficult to do right, and it's not like anybody can do it, and either way, most of the really good screamers in bands are also excellent singers. Hip hop music isn't too bad, I like some of it, and if people listen to it, it's up to them.

Quote: "What is the advantage to dressing punk? Comfortable? Not anymore than something more normal. Attractive? Not at all. So why?"

Did it ever occur to you that people would dress like that because they feel like it? When I put on my pants in the morning, I'm not worried about sending a message, I wear those pants because I like those pants.

And what's with all the metal fans here?

I'm really surprised why that's not on everyone's list. My friend at first was shouting his mouth off about how bad he thought Portal would be, I duck taped him to the chair and forced him to play through the whole game. He stopped struggling after the first level. Ever since then he loves it and, quite annoyingly, quotes Glados at every opportunity.

Depends on your taste, I mean screaming music can be good (At least I like it - not all of them, some are crap IMO, I'm off to see a bunch of them (amongst other, more melodic ones) at Bloodstock in a couple of weeks) - I guess people who like that sort of thing get something out of the music some people don't...or listen to it because they can call themselves hardcore, most scene kids and emos tend to be the latter, or at least the ones I've known. "That's so hardcore" (some have renamed themselves to 'hardcore kids' )

Though fast loud metal tends to sound best when in a mosh pit or when jumping around or moving in a crowd to the music...I guess a similar reason why clubbers listen to repetitive electronic music. (Ever since clubbing I've soften up on it, and even enjoyed Zane Lowe's and Judge Jules' DJing when they came to our Uni)

So you're saying the thousands and thousands of people who listen to it don't know what "musical" is?

I agree with Seppuku, not all screaming music is good. Some sounds like total crap. The screaming bands I listen to have alot of great singing and awesome instrumentation going for them too.

I know what is musical, I have a wide taste in music, so I'm sure I have no delusion in the matter.

Good screaming bands are: Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Behemoth, Immortal, Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility, In Flames, At the Gates, Ted Maul(they're a mix of death metal and drum & bass)

Bad screaming bands are: Cradle of Filth, Slayer, 'screemo bands' I can't remember the names of, the ones that like whining and screaming as thouh they're having a tantrum -> there are others, but having not hearing them for a long time I forget their names.

Of course all in my opinion and in accordance with my taste.

I agree with Sepukku and Inspire. Some screaming is crap. But it's also best when it's as a contrast of something else (imo). Also I think that metal is great to listen to while programming (idk why really), it just is!

I listen to wordless techno beats from a game soundtrack while I program.

And that is just as good and is my 1st alternative to metal! Gotta love that stuff, especially for programming and math...

Over the years after programming many many things, and listening to many many songs, I have come to the conclusion that the totally best music to listen to, once you hit that sweet spot on a project and everything becomes easy and you want to code as fast as possible, is AC/DC. Totally. They are just the right speed for fast coding, have awesome songs, and all songs are pretty similar. So no, say, fast coding to a Nirvana song to then get hit by one of their more slow and depressing songs.

BTW, Sisters of Mercy are almost as good, but are let down by extremely slow songs here and there. No good for long periods of fast coding.

Oh yeah, and my new favourite place on earth is Gunville, which is a place on the Isle of Wight. Turns out my dad's family comes from there I found out the other day. But c'mon, can you think of a more excellent name for a place? Awesome. Good name for a game too come to think of it. Plus it looks like a knight with my surname was the governor of the Isle of Wight for a few years back in like the 15th century. Sweet. So, considering the size of the place (tiny), there is a chance that I could be decended from a knight who was basically in charge of a place called Gunville. Wish I'd found that out as a kid. Just call me Sir Gunville Put it this way, there is much more chance of that than being related to a certain extremely (read unbelievably) rich geeky lord of OSs that people like to slag off

Cheers

I don't do programming, but I do model quite a lot, and I usually just put on some old video tutorial on something in the background, I find it calming

@Dazzag
nah, if I were to listen to AC/DC I'd never get any work done. I'd be too distracted. It's just too catchy. I'd want to hum along... or jump up and run around the room several times before I calm down enough to continue!

@Zaibatsu
great taste! Especially for fav RPG (morrowind [long live TES!!!]), fav band (creedence clearwater revival) and fav arcade game (mortal kombat). Very good taste imo!
