Newcomers DBPro Corner / Chess movement

Hey every one this is a little difficult and I have no clue on how to do it. I want to program a chess game but have no clue how to ristrict the movement so you can't break the rules ect ect... I am lost and have no clue on how to do this.

Make a 2D array. Simpley check if the place the user is moving is valid or invalid (Maybe a 1 for valid, 0 for invalid on the map..)

Look at source for 2D tile engines. That will help!

thats all fine an dandy but how do I determine if a knight that moved is valid?
