I've decided to code a "Money" system for FPSC. It should be very easy using variables, and it should be easy even when you want to buy weapons. I haven't started the actual coding yet, because I already encountered a problem. I need a HUD to show how much money the player has, but I'm not going to code one HUD for every single number in the universe! I saw a thing called a Numeric HUD in the official FPSC guide, but I don't know how it would work. Is there a way to associate a variable with a HUD so the HUD shows that variable's value?

I think there is, nut I have neveer tried it. Look in the gamebank textfiles. setuplevel.fpi This sets up the numeric hud system. Take a look at it.

I did, and I have the idea (I might be wrong) that numeric HUDs can ONLY be used to show ammo, lives and health, and nothing else...

I think that is true. There mightbe a work around, though. It is pissible to script your money with numbers. that would take forever. How about a pile of coins that keeps growing as your money increases.

Yeah.. I'll find a way around it anyway. I might even use the "lives" system, as my games dont use that anyway. I think the "lives" system is outdated and should have been flushed into the sewer after arcades became less popular... Same way the "health" system doesn't make sense.
I like the alternatives such as CoD 3's health system and an unknown game (forgot the name) that showed damage on different body parts if you went to a certain machine, by showing it in different colours (red on the head means dead).

If only the engine supported that.

Go to link below. It talks about money scripts used in stores. Conjured Entertainment also has something about this but I can't find his thread at the moment. He came up with clever scripts and huds that keep track of money amounts. I'll try to find it later.

Edit:

There is a link within the above thread to CE's cash system. Also this thread may get you started in the right direction at least.

Yes, but his method is a little buggy to me.
