We've not done this in a while, and I figured this year. Might as well have a new twist on the old formulae.

What this boils down to is this... list you're top 10 games of all time, and you're worst 10 games of all time.

Other catagories you can vote for are:
Best Storyline - Self explanitory really, what game did you feel had the best story

Best Gameplay - Being able to play a game is paramount, which game did you feel did this the best

Best Graphics - This one doesn't mean, how amazing the graphics are compared to current generation titles. What is actually meant here is what stood out for outstanding graphical achievements. For example you could pick Elite (as it was the first to do 3D), you could pick Perfect Dark (as it was the first game to feature real-time reflections and Depth-of-Field). Be sure to provide the reason to why you've picked the game you have for this.

Best Multiplayer - Any game you felt had a kick-ass online aspect

Best Game Mechanics - This is a new and interesting degree, but it boils down to a game that added something new or a new twist on something old that you felt really made the game fun and awesome. Again you must provide a reason.

The additional catagories are only open to a single game and are completely optional... but if you post you have to post you're top 10 best and worst games of all time.

Also I don't want to see "oh why did you pick that it's crap" or "how could you say that was crap when it was 1337 ub3rsom3!" or such crap. Whatever people pick is their own preference not yours, if you wanna join in then make a list of your own; otherwise keep the writing fingers still.

Well look forward to seeing which games win this year

Current Generation:

1- Best Storyline - Mass Effect, these guys put more effort than most game developers do into creating a plot.

2- Best Gameplay - Assassin's Creed; great battle system and I liked the running and hiding - climbing up walls etc.

3- Best Graphics: Crysis or Mass Effect again

4- Best Multiplayer: I'm not much of a multi-player guy and I just got beaten by a friend on DoW, but I'd say Call of Duty 2 is the best one I've played

5- Best Game Mechanics: Oblivion

Additional Games:

6- Bioshock
7- Half Life 2

Can't complete 10 for this gen.

OF All Time:

1- Story: Final Fantsy VII (Immersed me and I don't overate it)
2- Gameplay: Echoes (Yes Binary Zoo) or Syobon action...both very addictive games
3- Graphics: Monkey Island - not quality, but style, but only the first
4- Multiplayer: RuneScape
5- Mechanics: Syobon Action - the aim to purposely make the player go insane is brilliant. My friend hated me for showing it to him and I hate whoever posted it on here.

Others-
6- Push Over - fun puzzle game
7- Dawn of War
8- Age of Empires 3
9- Final Fantasy VIII
10- Final Fantasy IX

Worst:

Doom 3
Reservoir Dogs
FEAR
Chicken Invaders

10 Best, given both the time they came out and how I currently view them:
-Homeworld
-Halflife
-Halflife 2
-Portal
-Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening
-Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
-Fable: The Lost Chapters
-No More Heroes
-Tony Hawk 2
-The Longest Journey

Not all of those are my favorite games, but all in all I think they qualify as the top 10 best games I've played, for various reasons. Many games I think might go on that list I have yet to play, so my list should be somewhat different in a year.

10 worst games, for time frame and current view
-The Club
-Link: The Faces of Evil
-Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon
-Zelda's Adventure
-Spider man 2 for the PC
-full metal alchemist
-Sonic the Hedgehog for 360 and PS3
-Extreme PaintBrawl -from IGN, never played
-NRA Varmint Hunter -from IGN, never played
-ET -I have never played, but I feel it deserves to be here

Best storyline- Hmm... Tough one. I'll have to go with Half Life 2 though
Though there are many other game stories I regard just as highly as Half Life 2's, I can think of non that portray the story so well. In HL2, I really feel as part of the story, in a way no other medium has done.

Best gameplay-Links awakening
This might be the best designed game I have played. All in all, I find I enjoy every gameplay mechanic in the game. Simple as that.

Best Graphics- Shadow of the Colossus
This is simply the most beautiful game I have ever seen, both in still shot and motion. This game more than any other, is a work of art. It would probably be on my top 10 list, but I have not yet played it.

10 Best Games:
Oblivion (Just wow...)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Genuine improvement, although see below.)
1080 Avalanche (Good graphics, had an awesome feeling of connection between player and game)
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (Immersion and graphics were fantastic for the time, especially the lighting. Online matches were second to none.)
Cel Damage: Overdrive (Wasn't expecting much, found a good solid multiplayer game to my pleasant suprise.)
Jedi Academy (Challenging and fun. Something most games fail to combine.)
F-Zero GX (Good feel, lots of content, smooth visuals.)
Metroid Prime (Worked better than I expected, possibly best visuals of the generation.)
Trackmania Sunrise (Hours of fun through user-generated content.)
Need For Speed: Underground (Came out of nowhere, good generic racer)

10 Most Disappointing Games:
Zelda TP (Looked like Tomb Raider 2 for the most part and played like it too. Good atmosphere but bored me.)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Too many characters mainstream gamers couldn't care less about - who the hell is Ike? Map editor over restricted.)
Morrowind (Lacked the feel of connection Oblivion had between player and game - immersion is key.)
X2 - The Threat (Nice graphics and gameplay but I ran out things to do. Too quickly.)
Driver: Parallel Lines (Tried to be GTA, just isn't.)
Guitar Hero 3 (Really dodgy PC port)
SSX Blur [Wii] (Vague controls that just ruined it. Supposed to be tricks triggered by patterns, none of which seemed to work in the slightest.)
3D Sonic Games (They suck, Sega. Admit it.)
Terminator 3: War of The Machines (Where was my single player campaign?)
MS Flight Sim 2004 (Horrendous performance for no known reason)

Anticipated games:
Mirror's Edge (Not that I have anything to play it on)
GTA DS

ASUSTek Eee PC 701 4G Black - Celeron M @630mHz - 512Mb RAM - 32Mb Shared Intel GMA 900 - Windows XP Home SP1 - No antivirus/firewall.
And it still boots quicker than any other laptop I've seen.

Hmmm don't think my list will have changed much since last time I posted one:

Best games of all time:
1 - Shadow of the Colossus (work of art, innovative game play, excellent graphics style, awesome soundtrack, nice minimalist storyline (yet far more powerful than any other game I have played) - great in every way)
2 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3 - ICO
4 - Morrowind
5 - Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask
6 - Silent Hill 2
7 - The Curse of Monkey Island
8 - Half Life 2
9 - Perfect Dark
10 - Jet Force Gemini

There's lots of other great games that could probably be on this list but these are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

Worst games (I have played) of all time:
1 - Fahrenheit/ Indigo Prophecies (This game summarises just about everything which sucks about game story lines)
2 - Two Worlds (only played 360 demo)
3 - Run out of ideas, I tend not to play games which I don't think I will like .

@Bizar - You really should play SotC.

I bought this game when it came out after hearing a lot of good things about it. Wierd thing: I don't even own a PS2, it's still in it's shrink wrap! I really need to get me a PS2 and finally play this game. Many of the other games you listed are my favorites, so I'm guessing you're right on the ball with SoTC.

Best:
10. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
9. Evochron Renegades
8. Diablo II
7. Super Mario 64
6. The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
5. Zelda: Links' Awakening
4. Starcraft
3. Metal Gear Solid 4
2. Deus Ex
1. Metal Gear Solid

Worst:
10. Super Mario Bros 2
9. Driv3r
8. Daikatana
7. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (auch!)
6. Bad Day LA
5. Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing
4. Universal Combat
3. Superman
2. Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon (auch!)
1. ET

Best Storyline - Metal Gear Solid 1. So many layers of betrayal and plot, that it dazzled my mind how they came up with the whole thing.

Best Gameplay - Super Mario 64 probably wins that for me.

Best Graphics - I think Metal Gear Solid was the first game that I thought of that the graphics were worth a big 'wow'. Gears of War did drop my jaw as well. Gears of War wins for now, I think.

Best Multiplayer - I never thought I'd choose a RTS for this category, but alas: Starcraft never ceased to amaze me online. Even ten years after it's original release, the multiplayer community and the balance between the races still make Starcraft the best multiplayer game to date for me.

Best Game Mechanics - Deus Ex provided players with the standard FPS approach but with a depth and a level of perfection not seen before and never seen after, although Metal Gear Solid 4 is a worthy runner-up.

I'm writing this without reading anyone else's responses, so I'm not influenced by you people.

BEST
1. Diablo II - I LOVE this game.
2. Warcraft II - Probably the best strategy game ever.
3. Red Alert I/II
4. Tetris - Specifically Tetris Attack on the SNES. But Tetris games in general are amazing.
5. Donkey Kong Country I
6. Super Mario World
7. Super Mario Brothers 3
8. Lolo 1/2/3 - I list all three here, because they're all the same game, just different levels.
9. Mario 64
10. Zelda Series - Not counting Wind Waker, not because I didn't like the graphics (because I kinda liked them), but because it was a boring game. If I didn't group all the Zelda games together, Zelda would be my top 10 list.

WORST
1. A Boy and His Blob - ok... what the heck is this game? It's such a lame game... I never understood why it was ever a "game".
2. Hey You Pikachu - Nice try nintendo... nice try.
3. Halo 2 - This game made the list, because how disappointing of a game it was to me. They had my expectations pretty high, and they let me down. Awful story line, it was very buggy, it... ugh... it was such a disappointment to me.
4. Garry's Mod - Overrated, boring, not much of a game. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel.
5. World of Warcraft - of all my opinions about games, my opinion on WoW is the strongest. If you want to waste your time and you money playing a super boring game - WoW is your game.
6. Runescape - Holy crud batman...
7. Ghost Recon - The gamecube one. That game just has so many UI nasties that made me wish I never bought it. The game has a sweet concept and decent game play, but ugh... I just couldn't like it. It makes the list because it was disappointing to me.
8. F.E.A.R. - Yeah, the graphics were good. The gore was over the top, they tried WAY to hard to make it gorey. They swore WAY to much. I mean, seriously, way too much. And it wasn't that scarey of a game. I was really disappointed in this game.
9. Zelda - Wind Waker. Graphics were cool. I liked the style. The engine is sweet. But holy COW the boat was so stinking stupid. Talk about boring. I tried really hard to ignore the hours I put into that stupid game sailing in that slow boat on that HUGE ocean. But I just couldn't like it. That game was severely disappointing to me.
10. Mega Man 64 - Man I was so excited to play this game... LAME.

the problem is, I play a game, if I don't like it, I put it away and don't play it anymore and forget about it. So I know there are worse games than those. The games I listed are mostly games that I looked forward to playing, or thought were great ideas until I played them and the disappointment was just overbearing. So they're not the worst games ever, just the worst ones that I can think of that really left a bad taste in my mouth. Except A Boy and His Blob... I just don't understand that game

Best Series: Zelda
Best Story Line: Half Life 2 - why? Because it's the only FPS that I really really enjoy playing, and the story pulls me in and I'm curious to see what happens next. No other FPS does that for me, and very few other games in general.
Best Graphics: Donkey Kong Country 1 - those graphics still impress me, and I still think they were on top for their time and generation.

Best Graphics:

Portal, not just well built lighting bloom and fresnel, but a nice styling too. Especially in the "behind the scenes" areas.....

Best Story:

Half Life 2, it really pulls the player in and immerses them in the dystopia, although the immersion is occasionally release while a rebel yells "Reload, Freeman!" while you're smashing crates with a crowbar. It really does pull you back under with the extremely realistic NPC interaction. Such as Alex finding her father in Nova Prospekt.......

Best Gameplay:

Ooohhhh....a hard one this, but I'd put down...Oblivion. It's pretty immersive, and the randomised face generator makes every fight feel unique...even if they do all have the same voice. All the little things like Fatigue, Weapon Degredation and and the way it's implemented make it truly awesome...

Top 10:

Hidden and Dangerous 2
Super Mario RPG: legend of the seven stars
Goldeneye 007
Battlefield 2: modern combat (online-single players not that good)
Legend of Zelda: a link to the past
Legend of Zelda: ocarina of time
Tetris (spent most time on "The New Tetris" on N64)
Resident Evil
Final Fantasy 7
Lemmings (psp version because it has level editor)

Theres alot of others that come close but I tried to put the ones that I spent the most time on

I'm going to add the top 5 of what I think to be the most innovative:

5. Pong - of course
4. Doom/Quake - Defined the FPS in general.
3. Golden Eye 007 - Defined console FPS
2. Super Mario 64 - Really defined the 3d adventure style game
1. Super Mario Brothers 3 - It really redefined what a side-scroller game should and would be until the 3d generation came about.

I'm sure if I thought harder, there would be others, and the list would be in a different order. But those are 5 games that really put their footprints in gaming history.

Best storyline:
1. Deus Ex - the game gave reasons nearly every step of the way as to why you had to do what you did and it did a great job immersing the player into its environment.

2. Thief series - The only other game where I actually looked forward to the next cinematic cut scene.

Best Game Mechanics:
1. Thief 3 - The 3rd installment of great series was done by a different group. Rather than mimic the previous games to make a poor attempt at capitalizing on the Thief name like I think most companies may have done, Eidos and Ion Storm(Deus Ex) changed the game play a little bit and added new features, while doing away with others (rope arrow) and yet pulled it off very well. The graphics were definitely a step above the previous titles and the game was less linear than it had been in the past.

I don't play many games, so this is all I have. Diablo2 was most addicting game ever, and while I loved UT I wouldn't give it any awards. Same game every time, just newer graphics.

Heh awesome. Similar thing happened with me and ICO. I kept hearing great things about it so in the end I bought a cheap second hand PS2 and a copy of it to see what the fuss was all about. Needless to say I really enjoyed it, and when I found out SotC was made by the same team I immediately went out and bought that too.

Cool, for me SotC is one of those rare games that really demonstrates how powerful an experience video games can be.

Riven
Zelda series
Psychonauts
Half life 2

I've seriously considered getting a ps2 just for Shadow of the Colossus and Ico. A friend of mine got one recently though, and I literally forced him to buy Shadow of the Colossus.

Best storyline: Advent Rising. Written by Orson Scott Card, but they never made a sequel...

Best gameplay: Halo 3 (don't turn this into a Halo debate)

Best platformer: Mario, Ratchet and Clank, Jak

Best RPG: Oblivion, KotOR and Final Fantasy X were close though

Best 2D: I'm gonna go with Pokemon or the Zelda games

Best RTS: Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II. I loved the epic battles

Best third person shooter: Mercenaries. That game was so sick

Best sandbox: GTA4

Best game I actually liked for the gamecube: Viewtiful Joe

Best Stealth: Splinter Cell 1-3, I didn't like Double Agent that much

Gears of War: Gears of War (needed to be mentioned)

Other: Phantom Dust, Star Wars: Battlefront II, Republic Commando

And I agree with JoelJ about Halo 2. That game was horrible, looking back on it. The multiplayer was awesome though.

Worst games (that I can think of):

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault: I bought this game and installed it on two of my computers, it wouldn't run on either! Fail.

Fuzion Frenzy: Come on, every minigame is nearly identical!

Madden 2006 (360): got rid of some of my favorite features, was overall dreadful to play

Lord of the Rings: Tactics: Why did I buy this?

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head (without going into the obvious ones like ET).

@Van B - You like Pikmin over Pikmin 2? I like them both but I don't like Pikmin's time limit. There's few things I hate worse in video games than time limits.

@Bizar Guy - I tried SOC when I got my PS3, but I had no idea what to do with the first monster. Maybe I wasn't thinking how the designer's brain works. It's not really a spoiler if anyone cares

Trust this forum with the exception of a couple who stuck to the original catagories start inventing their own.

This is all done on votes btw, so the order of your top 10 makes no difference at all. More votes, the more likely the game will be higher ranking.

Best Top 10
1. Elite (Multiplatform)
2. Soul Calibur 2 (Multiplatform)
3. Dungeon Keeper (PC)
4. Battlefront 2 (Multiplatform)
5. Shadow of the Collossus (PS2)
6. Civilization Revolution (Multiplatform)
7. Perfect Dark (N64)
8. Portal (Multiplatform)
9. Psychonauts (Multiplatform)
10. Secret of Monkey Island (PC)

Worst Top 10
1. Oblivion (Multiplatform)
2. Carmageddon (N64)
3. Superman (N64)
4. Full Throttle (PC)
5. Spyro (Multiplatform)
6. Phantasy Star Online (Multiplatform)
7. Frogger (Multiplatform)
8. Heroes of Might and Magic (PC)
9. Epic (Multiplatform)
10. Crysis (PC)

Best Storyline - Killzone (Multiplatform) • Might be an odd choice especially with the likes of Final Fantasy Series or Jade Empire, but this was the first FPS that really made me feel that the characters themselves actually had depth to them. More than one dimensional mindless killing machines, as well as telling the story in a way that both sides have reason to fight.

Best Gameplay - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (NGC) • Full of surprises today, eh? This one oddly enough is a very under-appreciated title in my opinion. It's controls were extremely responsive, and it did an amazing job of taking one of the most complex RPG systems in gaming today; and creating an action orientated experience that is simple and easy to pick up. It provided such an excellent all round experience that I just can't fault it.

Best Graphics - Shadow of the Collossus (PS2) • This title is a true testiment to what can be done when developers put their minds to it. For the aging Playstation 2, to achieve the huge world that never suffers from lag or loading; along with some truely impressive graphical effect some of which are still not commonplace several year on. It is a technically amazing game and should be recognised for it's achievements.

Best Multiplayer - Unreal Tournament 3 (Multiplatform) • You might be wondering why I've chosen what fans believe to be the worst game in the series of great multiplayer games... you know what all I can say is play it online against friends, enemies and strangers. From it's truely amazingly balanced weaponry and vehicles to excellent level design. This game is nothing but pure delight to play against others.

Best Game Mechanics - Portal (Multiplatform) • Sheer delight playing this. Although the whole "portal" system isn't really new given games like Tomb Raider and Quake 3 used them as core components; it's surprising that this game took that to a whole new level allowing you to create your own. Past being a great technical achievement, the blend of a 3D puzzle world, the blackest humour ever seen and sense of urgency despite there being no need for it... the mechanics just all came together to provide one of the best games ever made.

It confused me at too when I came up against my first collossus; but during my many random attempts to hurt it, I accidentally found myself grabbing on to hairy parts of it's body. It was from that point I realised the genius of the boss fights and it became a sheer delight to play.

Well, my friend beat the game in a week or two, and now I'm just waiting till I see him at college again before I play. If I have too much trouble with the first one I'll steelz his learnded skillz.
I can't offer much about the gameplay yet, until I've played it. I was kind of put off by the idea that most of the game is the boss fights when it came out. That is until I played No More Heroes, which is also mostly boss fights, and I loved that. SotC is even more about the boss fights from what I can tell. Made me start to think that kind of model could really work.

~Top 10~ Not in order because I don't know what I like best lol

~Halo 1
~Halo 2
~Halo 3
~Gears of War
~Fable
~Mass Effect
~Oblivion
~Gladius (most under rated game of all time lol)
~Knights of the Old Republic 1 (and 1 only)
~Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2

Worst game
~Runescape

That's pretty much the only game I've played that I hate.

Looking forward to
~Gears of War 2
~Fable 2
~Fallout 3

I'm kind of looking forward to ~Halo Wars~ but I don't really like RTS games. It has coop so it might be good. If it didn't have coop I wouldn't be looking forward to it at all.

Hrm...

I tend to ramble a lot, I appologise!

BEST GAME - BioShock:

If ever there was a game to prove that games are an art form, this is it. Probably the most emersive and original game universe I've ever seen, in terms of design, sound, art and concept. The combination of FPS and RPG elements wors realy well, the characters have depth and the voice acting is excellent, it draws you in completely. The graphics are stunning, they hired a whole team just to do the water alone. I don't think I've ever anticipated a game as much as I'm anticipating it's sequel! (And the film!)
Plus, this game harbours a very serious educational message: Don't take drugs, kids.
Then again, at the same time it also harbours the message: Drugs give you super powers...

MOST INGINUITIVE - Portal:

Practically re-wrote the puzzle gaming genre. Wonderfully engaging on a mental level whilst still hillariously funny. Took puzzle games from the bargain bin to the fore.
Oh, and in case any of you needed proof that I was a nerd, I am writing a screenplay for a film based on Portal called 'Aperture' for my film studies class...

BEST MULTIPLAYER - Team Fortress 2:

Probably the most addicting game I've ever played. The simplest concept executed with sheer brilliance, well worth the 8 or so year wait since Team Fortress 1. The combination of the cartoony art style and the glorious, gratuitous violence along with the hillarious personalities of the player classes all add up to potentially the best online multiplayer experience I've had in a long time.
There is nothing more gratifying than shooting another player, and then not only to see them explode, but to see their various limbs and internal organs all labeled for you amongst the remains. And they say gaming encourages violence?

BEST RPG - Assassin's Creed:

I've only had this less than a week and I'm allready in love. I don't quite know if this counts as an RPG, but I couldnt think of another genre to assign it to, feel free to correct me. I've played a lot of free roaming games but this one certainly has the greatest feel of 'freedome' to it. The free running works brilliantly (Though it took a while to get used to controlling it with a keyboard and mouse!) and the world seems really explorable.
The fighting, I'll admit seems a little repetetive sometimes, but the sheer fun you can get jumping from rooftop to rooftop and diving into carts of hay certainly makes up for it! I've never been a fan of fantasy, knights and horses and castles. But this game has opened my eyes to realising that horses can be as cool as 'hover-jey-laser-mobiles'and that stabbing people can be just as fun as shooting them! But seriously, I draw the line at World of Warcraft.

MOST UNDERATED - Kane & Lynch: Dead Men:

I personally LOVE this game. Great fun, good replayability, satisfactory level of expletives. Yet the reviews didn't seem to care for it and after barely being out a year, I find it for £12.99 in my local game store's 'Bargain Bin'. Not impressed.
It's not the best graphics or the most original, but it's damned good fun to play!
Apparently there's a film on the way...

WORST GAME - Supreme Commander:

Biggest. Dissapointment. EVER. Honestly, I've played more exciting games lawn bowls with my Nan than this! (Seriously, I play lawn bowls.)
Thank god I only payed £15 for it in a pack with 'Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance'. onestly, was SO looking forward to getting this, all the advanced features, 'the most detailed and expansive RTS of all time.'. The truth is, the detail and the features RUINED it. It's just too complex, so complex it saps all the fun out of it! Spending hours linking structures and setting waypoints and building technology trees. This game also wins the award for 'the shortest playtime before uninstallation ever'. Installed it, played it for 1 day, left it there for 2 weeks untouched and then uninstalled it to make space for Guitar Hero III. I've never even looked at 'Forged Alliance'.

Other games worth noting:

Alone in the Dark
Command and Conquer 3
TimeShift
F.E.A.R.

Games I plan on buying soon:

Unreal Tournament 3

Games I can't wait to be released:

BioShock 2
Mirror's Edge
Spore
STALKER: Clear Skies
Crysis: Warhead
Fallout 3
Red Alert 3
Battlefield: Heroes

That is my favorite strategy game ever. It is fantastic, and in my opinion isn't near as complex as some others like sins of a solar empire.
