I am having problems writing to a file. In another function I have no problem writing to a file. Here is the code. Thanks in advance.

The file must not exist if you want to open it to write to it.

Open it up, copy into an array, delete the file, add into the array the appendix, and then save to file reading from the array.
*Sighs*... logic...

... or use the alternative file plug-in that I've written - it's faster than the DBPro file I/O too, even when switched to 'safe mode'.
