Literally.

I stopped biting my nails about a month ago ( I went to glastonbury festival, and there was no way my habds were going anywhere near my mouth!!).

Anyway, I now have lovely long femenine finger nails but, get this... typing is horrible now! I can feel my nails clinking on the keys, and getting stuck in the gaps... jeez, I think I might have to gnaw one off right now, just to feel straight again.

Whatever.

Anyone else want to join the support group and talk about how you quit..? We can pretend like it's Alcoholics Anonymous.

"Hi, I'm Jay, I'm 24 years old. I've been biting my nails for 10 years, I lost my job, and my family, and now my health.. all because of my nails. I just take it one day at a time...."

I'm finally after about 10 years beating my nail biting habit. I still do it once they're long, but I used to be notorious for biting my nailes down as far as possible until my fingers hurt. I don't know why I used to do that to myself... My finger nails and cuticles are starting to look much nicer now.

Sometimes suspensful movies still get to me though when I'm alone :p

Oh, I don't consider that a bad habit but a trait. Your fingernails remain nice and short that way.

I don't do it, but I tried once to understand what all the fuzz was about. Not my cup of tea, but I do bite my lip and rip off its skin from time to time.

What a normal thread.

Finally, someone who sees it my way, I don't get what's the big deal if you do it.

Hmmm...

"Hi, I am Bryn, I'm 19 years old and I've been biting my nails since as long as I can remember, and worse yet I've been picking my toe nails too and now they're just hideous...no one will even date me, it's not the nails but the body odour...however I thought I'd mention it."

Yeah I bite my nails, saves getting a pair of scissors and cutting them. It could be worse, I could still be picking my nose.

I've never bitten my nails, and never understood why people would want to. I mean, has anyone cut that little bit too short with clippers - it bloomin hurts!, who would want to inflict that on themselves .

The only think I chew off are those little strips of skin you get at the sides and top of your nail, but more often than not, you bite it, pull your finger away and it tears a strip of skin all the way up to your armpit. Owwwwwww!.

Use nail clippers, you bloody cave-men!

Without sounding too metro-sexual, neat fingernails are fairly important to women, they notice stuff like that right away. Ohh, and it's bad luck to cut your nails on a Sunday, so just don't.

I consider it a trait too. I do it. I think mankind was meant to do it. How did cavemen keep their fingernails short? They bit them off. (That is also how some of them kept clean shaven. )

EDIT: Hangnails? Bah. Honestly guys, pain is annoying, not painful. Just rip it off. The blood is also annoying, depending on how much you rip off. I do this, I'm serious.

How do tigers, and bears, and walruses keep their nails short then? - you think they chew them?

I think nails are designed to break off and keep growing, so a caveman would break nails when they got too long, when your fighting tooth and claw.....well your gonna loose teeth and claws aren't you!.

My cats do...though I seriously doubt tigers and bears use nail clippers.

Though if decent fingernails attracts women, I'll use a bloody nail clipper.

You mean your cat chews it's nails? - that's not normal!

Cat's are supposed to scratch all hell outta your furniture to sharpen/cut their nails, or you can take them to the vet - who would use anything but his teeth!, but most likely clippers of some sort.

A couple of my cats have bitten their nails, but they tend to scratch the hell out of our sofa...then again our cats are quite abnormal, but hey they say pets take after their owners right?

I was biting my nails for years, finally stopped a while back. After that I would just let them get long and snap off. Just recently I started to bite them again, by god I wish I didn't, It hurts!

You really have to suck at biting then I guess, I just bite when I don't feel like moving my butt and going to the bathroom to get the clippers And it sure as heck does almost as good of a job.

Yeah, it's the ultimate aphrodisiac. The ladies'll be swooning at the very sight of your perfectly filed nails!

Oh, and good to see you're still around Butters.

I'll answer that when you get attacked by one with only short nails.

I only bite them when they get in the way of my guitar playing and I don't feel like getting up to grab the clippers.

Have none of you heard of nail clippers?

And I think Butters has either gone insane or had his account hacked.

I don't bite my nails, but I do pick skin off my fingers. Which technically makes me a self-harmer. It's surprisingly difficult to break the habit, actually.

I think my hands just have to be doing something, even if that's peeling my fingers. If I get hold of a pen and twirl it in my finges then they're quite happy.

Yes, hands provide good thinking tools, even when on a forum thinking about the right response to something I bite the top of my thumb.

But for some reason teeth need to be good thinking tools too, probably why I chewed through my pens when I went to school.
