I know there aren't many people here that skate / like skating but I just thought Id post up the new trailer for the new Lakai / Girl / Chocolate skateboard video. They've CGI'd explosions over the video on the obstacles the skaters do tricks on. Looks really real. The only thing leading me to believe its CGI is a) itd be really dangerous but then again most of these guys dont care about that seeing as they nollie flip 12-set stairs, and b) throughout the video there are blatant CGI's like the ground falling, that also look really real.

On a side note. Maybe this will get a few people into skating. Its hard to explain, but if you look at the faces of the skaters as they do the tricks with the slow-mo filming, you can kind of get the feeling of what you feel when you're about to do a difficult trick... Cant explain it really, but its just something everyone should experience. So go skate.

Anyways check it out.

It was really cool at first and the camerawork was pretty damn good but it got really repetitive.

Really slow motion for four minutes...

Other than that, those explosions looked really cool. It did get a little repetitive and some faster shots could have spiced things up, but the CGI was great.

I don't think the explosions were CG. I've never seen that done in an amateur video, where it's tracking the camera movements and with the smoke enveloping the actors. Anyways I would only believe it's CG if the producers of the film stated, and/or if someone here can prove me wrong by doing a similar feat.

EDIT:

Ok, that last one looked really impressive. Now I don't know what to think. Cool video and song though

EDIT 2:

Oh crap, it's directed by Spike Jonze? He's one of my favourite directors, and he doesn't shy away from technically complicated special effects and pyrotechnics. Don't you remember the intro to Jackass the movie? There were all these explosions on both sides of the shopping cart and shrapnel was flying in front and around them... I definitely think this is real now.

Also I love finding new awesome songs I've never heard before. This is M83 - Lower Your Eyelids to Die With the Sun in case anyone's wondering. Great song, great clip.

I remember when I used to skateboard. This takes me back (except I never got any of the cool explosions and stuff).

Don't you just hate that Zotoaster guy?

what we should do is gather clips from all the skating forum members here and compile a video. Nerds on Wheels. My roommate is a film editor, I'm sure he'd help.
