Back in 2006, Hideo Kojima stated that a Metal Gear Solid movie is in the works, and that it might be released in 2009. I haven't been following this story much, so you guys probably know more about it than I do, but a friend told me David Hayter (the voice of Snake) isn't going to be affiliated with the movie. Seeing as how MGS4 is the only game that works on my PS3 right now, I've been playing it a bunch and it got me thinking about this movie again. Anyway, here's my question: Who do you think should direct the movie? Who should star in it? What would you want the story to be about?

I'd be horrifically offended if they turned this movie into some campy cheap-thrills action flick. I'd love to see it turned into a proper series of movies, the first taking place at Shadow Moses. Start out the movie showing Snake and Gray Fox working together in FOXHOUND back in the day and give a fairly good history lesson so people know the basic premises.

As a director, and again I wouldn't want this to look like some cheesy action movie, I'd have to say Christopher Nolan would be pretty good. Or go the uber-serious direction and bring on Ang Lee, his Crouching Tiger experience might help Kojima's style of action.

Here are my picks for acting roles:

Solid Snake: Clive Owen
Liquid Snake: Paul Bettany
Big Boss: Powers Booth
Hal/ Otacon: Michael Ian Black
Meryl: Jessica Alba maybe? She was decent in Sin City. There aren't many good actresses these days
Gray Fox: Liev Shrieber

There are tons of other characters that I'm leaving out but eh, these are the people who spring immediately to mind. Anyway, figured I'd ask and see what you guys think, and how you think this movie "should" be made.

Isn't MGS4 basically an interactive movie anyway?

Hmmm, Clive Owen? He was awesome in King Arthur, but, if it becomes another movie like, Shoot 'Em Up, I may brutally attack somebody lol. That was the worst movie I've ever seen.

We already have Metal Gear Philanthropy coming up for a MGS movie. That looks extremely impressive for indie stuff and you'll find one of the best known musicians on this forum actually does the musical score for the movie.

Why can't they just make the movie animated instead of using real life actors and things, it works way better since you actually get the real voices of the characters instead of actors.
Although then again, it's probably a bit more time consuming.

I knew someone would say that, from the instant I saw this thread.

I actually liked Shoot 'em Up, I thought it was a really clever action movie. But it was Owen's work in Children of Men that really impressed me, and I can definitely see him bringing Snake's character to life in a cool way.

If Uwe Boll directs the MGS movie, I'll go out shopping for a high-powered rifle.

I'd go looking for a warehouse, chair, rope, petrol, a lighter, a razor blade and the songs from the 80's.

If you're going to kill him, at least have fun while you're doing it.

Though I heard Konami refuse to give Uwe the rights, if that's true, then good on them, Uwe Boll isn't quite MGS material...well judging from the first game, but how many explosions, bad jokes and sexual references (other than watching Meryl's butt) are there in the MGS games that follow?

Hopefully this will get made. Then it'll open up the doors for more mediocre games to be made into films...

This is true. And I believe Hideo also said he didn't want a director as bad as Uwe touching his film. To which Uwe responded that he doesn't give a damn what some guy living in his granma's basement thinks...

At least that's what I heard.

Nah.. I would choose someone who actually looks more like snake. Though Clive Owen is a good actor when it comes to Action, he just doesn't look the part. TBH, Eric Bana would look quite cool as name. Or, Viggo Mortensen, Aragorn from the LOTR film trilogy.
