So I happened to come across this earlier. You probably know more about it than I do, which is why I make this thread. Are any of you conversing about it with supernerds online or dedicating religions to it? Is anyone actually going to see it? So what's the word on geek street about Star Wars return to the big screen? I personally enjoyed the films I watched through and am curious to see how the move to CGI fares.

Discussion, BEGIN!!!

It's ruining the name Star Wars. They should all die for making it animated. Well that's how I feel about it.

Isn't a movie based off of the cartoon series?

I don't know much about it, I just saw it on a poster when I went to see The Dark Knight.

But the original 3 Star Wars were the only good ones, he should have made all of them once he felt the energy and passion for it - yeah the technology wasn't as great as it is now, but I think he could have managed. Clones wars is probably for Star Wars kids instead of sci-fi nerds - I'm sure Sci-fi nerds would sit down pointing out inconsistencies whilst people throw pop-corn at them. (I wouldn't throw pop-corn, not at the price they charge)

Personally I don't think it's a good idea to throw out an extra movie like this, but that didn't stop me from buying the book, finishing the book that day, then buying my advance ticket for midnight the 14th!

Hell, if I can spend countless hours making lightsaber vids I can bear a 1.5 hour movie

[Edit]
Quote: "- I'm sure Sci-fi nerds would sit down pointing out inconsistencies whilst people throw pop-corn at them"
Was that you throwing popcorn at me during the special theatre showing of the Star Wars Holiday Special??

[Edit AGAIN!] Um.. went and watched some more trailers, and honestly, I think the visuals look very good. I see a bit of an anime influence throughout. Nice animation work too. Some parts are reminding me of the matrix. The story might be lacking though and I can tell that from experience having read the book lol but I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it nevertheless.

As far as visuals go, perhaps you're thoughts about this movie may be better if it wasn't Star Wars? B/c Personally I'm really digging the way it looks visually

Is Lucasfilms broke, or do they actively look for bad actors? What's with the terrible voice acting in this movie? Particularly that one clip where he says "Theres a look?" and the girl says "You can't miss it!" THIS IS FREAKIN' STAR WARS! Cuteness and jokes are subtle dangit, SUBTLE!

The only people that are offending star wars people are the people making this movie. This movie is a mockery of the real star wars. This movie is a joke.

I actually like episode 1. Though it wasn't as good as the originals, I found it much better than 2 and equivalent the 3.

What is with people liking Star Wars, it's horrible, I've always disliked it to the uttermost degree, and this movie just shows how sincerely bad the Star Wars series really is.
In my opinion of curse.

Lets see:

The first thrilogy was awsome. Episode ones was... thumbs down, Jar Jar was funny and the jedis was cool, but there where nothing more then that, it felt like done with a little too much concern for children. Episode 2 was way better then 1, but did not reach all the way, jedis where cool and there where a bit more to it, but not enough to be good. Episode 3 was very good, except for the bad acting (but not as good as the original ones).

Now this...

Sorry, it is just something wrong with seing a animated Star Wars movie in my native language. I will very likely see it, but I doubt I will like it...

4 and 5 remain my favorites, 6 was alright, after that it went all downhill. I hate CGI, I hate anime, and I hate bad voice acting so really this film is the culmination of everything I could possibly hate in a movie

Maybe...really it depends, were you the one that noticed how Anakin's ghost at the end of Episode 6 isn't the same actor as the Anakin in episode 3. If you were, then I held a lot of contraint by throwing that popcorn.

Considering Clone Wars is a kids cartoon, then yes it isn't aimed at adults.

I take it any movies based off of the Batman animated series is an insult to the badman movies and likewise Spiderman?

Oh yeah, lets burn them on the stake for trying something new. Fantastic. This is what happens when people get to accustomed to something like this, they're afraid of change... or 3D.

And for the record, it doesn't look 'kiddy'.

Now you've given it this much prejudiced criticism before you've even seen the movie all the way through, it'll be fantastic. Sods' law in action.

Is it just me, or have I seen a helluva lot of art forms as Star Wars entertainment?

Live Action Movies (1-6)
Video Games
Video Games About Lego Versions of Star Wars
Hand Animation Cartoons (Droids/Ewoks series)
Theme Park Rides (Star Tours)
Digital 2d/3d Animation (Cartoon Network CW Series)
3d Animation (The Clone Wars)
Novels
Action Figures (Yeah, I consider this art. Someone had to sculpt/design those models. And tbh many of the newer ones are very well crafted)

Is it so far fetched that a 3d film is made? Just watch the movies (even the old ones) so many shots are purely animated or have animated elements. Be it stop motion, camera control, matte painting, lightsaber roto, or cg, all of these are animation.

That being said, how many people can really judge the story right now? *raises hand alone being the only one geeky enough to read the book*

So I guess you guys are going to love the new animated series debuting on Cartoon Network of which this movie is a launching pad for?

Even though I'm pretty sure this new series is a just a more fleshed out version of those like 15 minute ones way back when 3 was coming out...

It's not even that great of animation either. I saw the trailer and I thought that it looked like it belonged on the N64 or something, not in theater. It's ruining the name of star wars. Even if it is a really great movie, you can't just resurrect something after you have such a superb, A+ finish like you had with Episode 3. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Hey people...this is just filling the gap between the prequel trilogy and the Clone Wars TV series (live action, mind you). The series is supposed to take place sometime during the Clone Wars (obviously), but it stars new characters and characters one would know if he/she red the comic books.

I don't really see why everyone thinks this will be so bad. Besides Star Wars has been trashed enough by the live action movies anyhow, so what more is there to lose.

I liked the Clone Wars cartoons on CN so I'm giving this a chance.

That's it, we're afraid of change. It's not that the acting is terrible, or the animation is shoddy at best, its just our fear of something new.

For the love of Shiva, just because something is new doesn't mean its good.

I have had faith for every single one of the new Star Wars movies. Every time I thought to myself "well the last one was complete crap, but I bet this one will be awesome!" I'm done.

Right on, I don't see why so many adults like it. I mean I watched that when I was six years old and outgrew it at 7 or 8. I think the movies are aimed at kids, and that it is kind of silly...

Because maybe they grew up with it? Maybe ask your parents why they like the Brady Bunch or I Love Lucy, they'll probably tell you that (and the fact that those shows are still funny, which is kinda crazy if you think about it). My dad still watches Star Trek (the original), and I've become quite a fan myself.

I think it would be pretty good. And its not a major starwars film. Its based off this...

And it bridges the events between episode 2 to 3. Like Star Wars Force unleashed bridges 3 to 4.

Pus, you being a comic writer / artist ought to appreciate the various styles of cartoon art. What is wrong with that image above? Why does it look gay? Lol. If I am not mistaken Clone Wars was created by Genndy Tartakovsky and his team. The man responsible for some of THE best cartoons of our era, including but not limited to Dexter's Lab!

Dude... Yoda looks awesome in that picture xD Reminds me of my great grandpa hahahahaha.
