I'm writinh a simple flight simulator, and I thought of a few ways to create maps for it, a

*** bsp -> bad idea, too slow
*** matrix -> looks crappy, but "fast"
*** terrain -> pretty fine [b])

I chose for the terrain, in the "world2-example" I get around 120 fps, if I create my own map in paint, I get about 23 fps...

See my problem? What can I do about it?

Matricies ... fast?
what matricies are you using??

BSP is FAST, unless you need it for large outdoor terrains.
Terrain's are fast, but too buggy.
Matricies are slow and look poor, but stable

seems that the speed of the terrain depends on the image you use for it. i took the example, changed the land.bmp with some black and white circles and the framerate dropped by the half

Yes babou, that is just what I ment, I tried making those bmp's with photoshp, EVEN SLOWER , with photo-editor, didn't even load, photosuite, that gave an fps of 32

So mind telling me what program you used to make your
"land.bmp" map -> db-team?

I need a large outdoor terrain, so raven was right, BSP really sucks at that

I've never looked into terrains or the imagemaps used to create them, but it's possible that the colourdepth of the image could have something to do with it. I'll bet a 16 colour image create a fairly speedy terrain.
