I am using 3ds Max V3:
If I add a .bmp texture to a simple object like a cube and export as a DirectX file it loads fine into DBpro.
But if I make a complicated mesh and export it I see the object but the .bmp texture is not visible.

Any suggestions?

I'm not a DB user, but make sure the textures are in a directory accessible by DBPro, typically the same directory as the model.

Or, export it as ASCII and then look in the file for the TextureFileName object, and see if it has an absolute path. If so, delete the path component, as typically you'll want to have relative paths only for the texture files.

Good suggestions JAT!!!
..but that might not explain why my box worked, and my complex object didn't.

It took me all afternoon to figure this out. The reason my box worked and my complex texture didn't was. In 3ds max I didn't collapse my model into a single object. I have worked with other exports before and never needed to collapse.

One other note is that in 3ds max I found some of the mapping styles were a little flaky; and I can not tile my object more than 1 time. So I can't use small maps and tile to save space. RATS!
