Hey guys, some of you may remember me from about a year ago, when I had my old site (mattmcfarland.com) which had a different layout then the one I am revealing to you today. As of today I have finished my new website, and I'd like for you to take a look. The new layout is by far better in my opinion, and I think it is even easier to listen to songs I've made and download them. You can also post comments, etc. I plan on adding a new song every week so keep an eye on it!

I'd love to network with other music sites, so if you have a music site and would like to exchange links please drop me a note! Also, if you know of any music sites that have great feeds, I'll add them to my feeds list.

There are over a dozen songs you can download, or simply stream! You can also rate my songs (they are also listed by highest rating and top downloads, etc) and even leave comments on them. I would greatly appreciate feedback so please check it out:

I remember finding your stuff years ago - it was good then, and it's good now!

My latest song is available for download! It's called "Uncertain Hero" and this is my first attempt at symphonic orchestra! It's definitely not as good as I wish it were, but I am going to continue working on this style of music in hopes of getting better.
Please check it out and let me know what you think!

An interesting blend of symphonic sounds (viols etc.) with "twangy" stuff. (You can tell I'm not a music expert, can't you?) I particularly like the section one minute in when we get the triplets played by the... well, I don't know what it's called, but it's heavily synthesised and sounds like techno stuff. Mixed with the strings I think it has an interesting contrast.

I think more layers of tracks might improve this style. I play in an orchestra but don't actually study music, so I understand a *little* about this but have little idea of the terms - but as far as I'm able to tell, the really good orchestral pieces have several melodies going on simultaneously. You might have 1st violins playing the main part with 2nd violins forming a counterpoint melody, with cello and double bass suppling the bass, then other sections suppling further layers of musical patterns.

Or maybe you did do that, and I was just too thick-headed to notice If so, I apologise profusely and promise to listen more carefully in future.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I've received quite a bit of criticism over this new one. I so know what you mean, and it's mainly due to my inexperience with Symphonic Orchestra (It's Haaard!)

I have created a better version, not uploaded yet, and still not happy with it. I may upload it sometime in the middle of the week as a "bonus" - if I ever am fully happy with it.

Anywhoot, I'll be posting another song which I just finished (and am really excited about) this sunday. I'll let you all know in your music and sound forums when it's ready. THanks!

Matt!!!
I remember the old site and the music and was lovin' it! I can't wait for all the new stuff to come through, and I hope you have fun doing it! The music is always so fitting to many different scenarios and you can find anything to go with the mood of the scene from your collection.
So glad you're back!

I've used Matt's music before.
I used six of his tracks in Concentric. They worked very well in the game.

The new tracks sound great too.

Nice work Matt

Cool! Glad you guys are putting my songs to good use! Concentric looks great! I've tried to run it but I get an error saying it fails to run the 32 bit driver. Is it because I'm using Vista?

No, I use Vista and it runs fine.

I made a critical error early in the design stages of Concentric, whereby I concluded that all modern PC's could run at 1280x1024 and designed the game only to run at that resolution!

A BAD DECISION!

My guess is that you are running on a lower resolution than 1280x1024. To change that so that it runs on any resolution would require a complete (almost) rewrite, which would take way more time and effort than I am willing to put in ... sorry

If you can get hold of a machine that runs 1280x1024 (or better) then give it a try. Your music is perfect for the game and, I think, enhances it rather well

Thanks again!

Ah Hah! My laptop's screen wont do 1280x1024, It's highest resolution is lower than that, and it's pretty new (well, its a year old now, heh) - but if I got a Monitor for it I could get the 1280x1024 resolution. Darn.. I think I could get it running on another machine though.. I'll have to try, thanks!
