(Sorry mods if this seems pointless to create a new thread when I could have posted this in the clone wars thread)

Clone Wars

So... I took a couple of my buddies and my girlfriend down to the theater to see clone wars with me. They had dared me to dress up in my jedi tunic and lightsaber for the midnight showing. I did. But that wasn't good enough for me. I took it one step further. Upon entering the room, I sprinted around the corner and across the front screaming "STAR WARS! STAR WARS! WHOOOO!" expecting jeers and ridicule, much to both my friends' entertainment and my girlfriend's dismay. Instead, as I wave my lightsaber movie prop across the front of the screen, I am met with thunderous applause. I was the only movie go-er to dress up, but I was not as out of place as I had previously suspected.

Onto the actual movie. It was pretty much what I had expected. Stylized, easy to look at visuals, clever animation, and a sub-par storyline. But if I could sum this movie up with one word, it would be fun. This movie in no way took itself too seriously and presented itself as exactly what it is: A nice little aftershoot movie aimed at kids. That however does not mean it was not entertaining to adults like me. (If you can consider someone who dresses up like a jedi as an adult... )

The character animation was great. Especially facial animation. The characters were very expressive and would have stricken me as motion capture if not for having seen behind the scenes work on the internet. You can really tell they put a lot of work into letting the audience feel the emotion they wanted to get across.

Many people complained about this movie being completely cg, and that what they had seen 'looks like crap' but seeing this on the internet truly does not do it justice as it is on the big screen. The rendering was done with the right amount of mix between realism and the art style they seemed to be going with for the series. While a live action adaptation of this would in my opinion be superior, I'm definitely not complaining about the visual style of the film.

The story was lacking. Completely expected it having read the book. The entire story is well rounded but definitely not deep enough for an older audience. Yes this is a kids movie so I shouldn't be complaining, but I would have liked a more in-depth story. The character development was not as bad as I thought it might be, and even managed to give the battle droids character, with some rather humorous results. The clones received much less attention than the book had given and I was saddened by this. The book adaptation really went into how the clones felt and fought together, and the way they interacted with Obi-Wan and Anakin. It seemed a lot of this was missing.

The movie is canonically correct for the hardcore fans, with lots of references to other themes, sayings, and actions that allude to the other movies and books. Even a reference to thx1137 was thrown in. Sadly I was the only fan who laughed out loud upon hearing it Oh, and I'm glad to say all of the written aurabesh text in the movie are correct to their corresponding signs/panels. (And I'm sad to say that I'm enough of a geek to be able to read aurabesh )

Overall, while it was entertaining for me, the movie was lacking in many ways as expected, but surprised me in others. Overall, I give this film 7.5/10 Galactic Credits... ...And $10.50 out of my bank account XD

[EDIT] And proof that I really am crazy:

If I had ran up on stage, I wouldn't have been applauded, I'd have been thrown out. Did you have an epic sabre battle with the usherettes?

Yeah, didn't you hear, they've started to sell them at Wall Mart, all you have to do to get them is turn in one of your friends soul to the Evil Heart of wall mart and you get one! I got 12! ... But now none of my friends like me anymore

That's odd, I gave all my friends souls to Tesco and all I got was 50 points on my clubcard!

Personally, I could give you both an apple AND a banana if you give me five souls.

you'll be having to take out another $20,000,000 in royalties to Drew cameron if you use that phrase again! He OWNS the galactic credits!

anyway. Good review, and i'm gonna be going to see it when it comes out over here in England (Why do films always come out later here!?)
