Alright, first of all basically what I am having trouble with is a script by Xplosys, maybe some of you know it, as it says in the subject of this topic, the script is Switch Code. Basically what this script is supposed to do is make an entity require a key code entry. The properties of the door I put this script together with work exactly as they should, but there is one wierd thing about the script. When the door opens, it doesn't open to the other side, but nothing, a grey nothing. If I try to walk through the door it doesn't allow me to, but as a normal door this works fine. It lets me into the room, with all entities, and such. I believe there is something missing in the script FPI.

The only thing changed in the properties of the default "control door (auto)" is AI Scripts/ Main is now "switch_code.fpi". I don't think it's the entity. I know that the FPI file for this script is switch_code.fpi not another name, because that is the way it downloads.

Here is a link to the download go to the bottem of the scripts section it is near there, it is called Switch Code: http://www.fpsfree.com/downloads.htm#Scripts. Could someone please help me identify this problem, and solve it?

Edit: I also tried searching the TGC forums for Switch Code, and Code Switch, no results came. Also sorry for the typo in the subject of this topic.

Edit2: Well, it shuts, and everything, but when it opens it's a blank grey through the door, and I made sure I mapped it, it worked without this script. It also shuts with enter again, like it's supposed to, and requires the entry code, again after shutting.

Sounds very strange indeed.

At first it sounded like a portal building issue with FPSC, and it may very well be just that... but you said that it works with the original script, right? In that case, it may NOT be a portal issue...

You may want to consider giving this to Lee to ponder over, because if the script is put in correctly... and it messes up then there may be a problem with FPSC.

Before you hand it to him, tho... you may want to make a short video of it messing up so that he can see what's going on on your end.

Do you think screenshots would be acceptable?

Edit: Well, I'm going to show screenshots in this topic. Here is the first screenshot, of the door after I enter the code, and it opens, I cannot walk through it, as if it was shut: . Here is the second screenshot, this image shows my map editor, and I made sure this was the part I walked up to, due to the fact the numberpad code opens the door: . This Third screenshot shows my door entity properties: . I am using the Free Version of FPSC, but that shouldn't make a difference, and my version is 1.12. Could someone please help me solve this problem?

Edit2: The script isn't handling the event properly upon use. I made a switch that you type the code into to activate the door, and when the code activated the door stopped working (it had door1.fpi as main), and the switch turned grey as did the door. Could someone please help me solve the problem with this script?

Hmm, it really doesd look like a portal issue to me.Unless your door lost its texture, your ambience is down so it appears grey, and the door just won't open.

But why would the door lose it's texture, it's not in the default scripting, something is wrong in this script, read my Edit2 in the post above your last one.

Edit: I haven't touched my ambience levels, don't even know how to, I am currently using the Free Version of FPSC. I know ambience is there, but don't know how to work with it. That's why I always have trouble trying to setup nightvision scripts.

Use < or > in test game. Yes, if the switch turned grey, it probably lost its texture for some odd readon. some switch scripts use the alttexture=1 command. if there is no alt texture assigbed, then it should loos its current texture. That is what I think. Turn your ambience all the way up and see if the door is white.

Diablos Bud,

I just tested this again with the latest update and full version of FPSC and it works as advertised. I can't tell exactly which door/switch, configuration you're using so I will give you mine.

Use the scifi Door Control Room (remote) and the scifi switch1.

Make no changes to the door properties. Leave the default name Remote Door.
Assign the script to the switch's AI Main and enter "Remote Door" in the If Used.

Best.

Sorry, but because I'm new, lol I don't even know how to remove an entity, the way I do it is drag it until it attaches to my mouse. But that won't work with doors, what should I do?!

Edit: I checked the manual, and left-clicked but it didn't erase, and I was in entity mode!

I know but when I left-click it doesn't select, I am in entity mode!

Edit: My FPSC has been acting up, like not selecting segments, not selecting doors, a door I didn't place is on the bottem layer. This getting wierd.

I'll just reinstall FPSC later.

Edit: I got it working, but still erases the texture, I'll just reinstall FPSC later, because it seems a bit buggy.

Lol, this sounds familiar.

That was the first question I ever asked on this board and it seems it's still as vague as ever.

To remove the door. go into segment editor, pick your door segment face it to where you placed the door and right-click instead of left-click. this should remove it.

Could you please check in the FPI file for me to make sure it isn't becoming effective?

As you can see, the script does use alttexture=1 as well as alttexture=0.
