For all those portal fans out there!
There've been rumors lately about a (pre-)sequel to the puzzle-action game of valve: Portal.
I was bored and googled on "Portal 2" and came across this site:
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51456
I was so excited when I saw it!
So then I googled on and on and found a (dutch - I'm dutch) site that says that it's a PRE-sequel. So that means that we'll get to see what happened before "it" and why the whole enrichment centre was forgotten.....

Comment if you like!

Jeff

EDIT: To make it clear for anyone, this announcement is:
NOT Portal: Still Alive
NOT Just a repack of maps
NOT Yet released.

Portal 2 is just a repackaging of levels that are already available to PC gamers. Nothing new.

I think you'll have to wait for it to come out to make that kind of assertion, Mahoney.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was IGN who said that. I'm simply repeating it.

The top story is partly based on a official vacancy for a voice actor:

Quote: "According to a recent article, a casting call on Breakdown Express is looking for that special someone to give voice to Cave Johnson, deceased head of Aperture Science, the company behind the whimsically sadistic Portal experiments. More tellingly, the listing mentions that Cave will be a sidekick-cum-antagonist, so players may end up in the role of a disgruntled Aperture Science employee this time around."

My apologies. Portal: Still Alive is a repackaging of already-existing levels.

Ah ok! I was confused. Like: are Portal 2 and Portal: Still Alive the same? Answer: no! (?).

Is Portal: SA out already or not?

Jeff

BTW: Apologies accepted

Still Alive has yet to be released, as far as I know. I may be wrong, though. I don't have a 360.

And no, SA and 2 will be far different. SA will be the original with different levels (that are already available for PC). 2 will most likely be an upgraded engine and such.

BTW, a "Pre-Sequel" is called a Prequel.

I've never actually played Portal, (except for the couple of minutes my friend let me try it), but I LOVE the ending. I actually have "Still alive" (the song) on my MP3 player.

Basically the best ending to a game ever.

...And this isn't news. It's been out for a LONG time. Even look at the article you posted. It was released in february.

I can't wait to see how 2 ends up, though. The original was so much fun.

Does anyone actually read before posting these days?

Also:

Quote: "...that "more Portal" would be forthcoming, and promised that the additional content would not just be "more puzzles"; an interview with Kim Swift on February 21, 2008 revealed that a full sequel, Portal 2, will be coming. Swift also stated that the team creating the Portal sequel are currently deciding upon the design they should implement and that a multiplayer Portal "from a technology standpoint is possible""

Omega, I know I gave you more than a few minutes on Portal. I'm pretty sure you got at least halfway through. I'm also 99% certain that you got the Finished Portal Gun (Test Chamber 12) and completed at least that level. The game takes (I think) at least 2-4 hours to complete a first run of. Getting halfway through that is definitely more than "a few minutes".

If you'd like to play more, just ask.

@ Geryon:
... it matters.
The point is I played it for a bit. I didn't know the total length of the game, so I didn't know I was halfway through. It really did seem like a short amount of time, probably cause I was so immersed in it.

I think portal may take part of the list of the best games in the world. I mean, it is so... Sinister and dark and hilarious and innovative and unique and and and!
What do you think?

It's a short game as it is. But, GLaDOS's lines give it some ridiculous replay value.

You deserve a kick in the crotch for three reasons: one for not reading the posts above you, two for not reading the links given, and three for ending it with "you guys just found out about this?" Crotch-kick!

I would love another Portal so it would hopefully continue the story and maybe show how it relates to the Half-Life universe, like having Gordon Freeman make an appearance at some point.

Yes, it's pretty stupid
I think Portal is a "Bridge" between ep2 and ep3 of Half-Life 2, and that you or alyx or THE COMBINE will have the portal gun to their powa!

You know that Still Alive song is downloadable for Rock Band, pretty funny song to make someone sing who knows nothing about Portal, they're just like WTF! the whole time.

I'm looking forward to anything portal related, as long as the puzzles stay fun though. Know what I mean? - the difficult puzzles when you have to quickly change the path of an orb or getting an orb through those barriers are challenging - but the fun puzzles with the turrets and companion cubes are what makes the game IMO. I just hope they keep the quirky nature in whatever they do with it.

Perhaps GMan was from Aperture to cause the Black Mesa incident.

I think it will be a classic, like HL1, HL2, HL2: Ep1, HL2: Ep2 and Portal original. They will keep it a "dark comedy" if you know what I mean...

No. He's too....ethereal. He's something much bigger and badder.
