I've been programming with DBP since January, but I've heard that C++ is a more powerful language, and that Dark GDK is a very good engine for it. Now what I'm wondering is which is actually better. GDK or DBP?

Thanks,
Aarrowh

C++ is obviously better. but you'll have to pay $500 for the license to sell your game made with dark gdk. there are alternatives you could write your code in c++ and compile to dlls and include them into your main dbpro source.

Ok. Where could I find a good DLL to compile into? Or is there any type of of freeware C++ compiler?

Yep theres BloodShed c++(Not being developed any more but i still have it) Code::blocks and i think there is a free version of the borland C++?. If you really want something good tho there is the express version of Visual C++ wich is by far my fravroute. But you wont be able to sell anything you make.

Again, the price of GDK is for GDK only, VC++ with Visual Studio express 2008 is completely free to use, you can make commercial applications for free, the only thing that costs is GDK. And things like DEV C++ and Code::Blocks are IDEs, you still need C++ compilers, however DEV C++ does come with MinGW.

As for making plug-ins for DBPro written in C++, I was under the impression you can't use GDK for this, but you need to call things via the 'globStruct'? Thus costing nothing extra(assuming you have DBPro).

Yes I have DBP. Those are some great ideas, I look into those IDE's and compilers. Onother question is about Leadworks engine, I don't see a forum for it so...is it C++ compatible and if so, is it a good engine???

i believe this is the link for the dll template http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=97069&b=5

and here is the link to get dev-c++

i dont think it matters if dev-c++ is being devloped anymore since it uses the mingw compilers. which are still being updated. i had to actually update my dev-c++ compiler to mingw3.5.2 cause im on vista.
