Art is now FTW!

Okay never mind about that hah, I just had to think of some "slogan" or whatever so yeah.
This is the W.I.P of my website that I will be using for my portfolio, I've been working on the design of this for about a week, trying to figure out what would look good. So yeah. If you have any suggestions please do tell, I need advice as I've never done web design before.
And yes, I only have the home page done, the other pages will follow soon.

Oh and if you use some other browser than Safari or FF please tell if there are any issues with the website in that browser.

So yeah, here's the sites address http://www.TehArts.com

You should make the font brighter. It's too dark.

looks good, except for the logo. It is very sloppy and you can barely read what it says. The colors are also to similar, you need WAY more contrast of color. No, offense, just trying to help you improve it.

I prefer to keep it all similar color wise really, I don't like all the colors in other websites But that's personal preference I guess. And yeah the logo is obviously sloppy, I made it in like 4 minutes It's probably temporary, we'll see how long I keep it.

Yup, I agree with what's already been mentioned. A little more work on the logo and brighter text. That's about it though for the criticism. Nice layout, works good in Opera.

Why grey and black?

You think that the people leading teams of artists and deciding who to fire like grey?

I say put as much tasteful color in there as you can, make it pop out at whoever is watching it and make them take notice.

Whoever invented dark grey on black as a colour scheme should be ashamed - there's a gazillion videogame and concept artists using the same colour scheme.

I remember watching a documentary on this artist who would only paint for a few seconds, he'd just add some colour to a piece and call it his own. He had a team of damn good photo-realism artists, they'd capture a scene that looked almost like a photograph, technically incredible but artistically bland. Then this guy would come along and add a cigar butt or a splatter of deep red blood, kinda adding a story onto the piece if you know what I mean.
Anyhoo, my point is that artists should want to stand out, so you be the guy telling the story and not the guy painting for 15 hours just so some git can come along and vandalize it .

Its certainly a good start. Definitely thinking outside the box. As these guys have said, its a little dark. Van B is right also, more colour will definitely bring everything out.

Also consider using the same font throughout. Using multiple fonts can be very tricky to pull off and can make things look messy.

The logo might need a little bit o' work, at the moment its just a blob, which again appears to be using two new fonts.

Other than that its good. I like the layout (Although it might look better centered). Keep at it!

Cheers,

Is the site all image based ?

It looks ok, it's just having it all image based makes it difficult to update and change and stuff.

Also, there's nothing there for search engines to read either. Also, it's no good on mobile devices. Also, no good for the visually impaired.

Hmmm, I like the colour scheme. Red + black = win. I wouldn't have it any other way if I were to design a site. Can't really understand the need for more colours, it would only destroy the nice theme he's going for.

Maybe just a hint of colour. Instead of having it black at the bottom fading into grey at the top, maybe a grey-purple?

I think the problem with the logo is that the black text of "rts" in "Arts" melds with the black outlines on the splodges. Solution? Change the outline colour for the splodges, I guess.

The biggest thing I would say needs work is the crammed text and logo placement.
