A professional games developer, I am currently involved in a new project, creating a game with the DBPro engine.

I downloaded the demo of the program, and have found this interesting 'bug'.

I compile and run a program, and it works fine. However, once a program has been run once, it cannot load-in any required 3d models unless a new version of them has been saved out.

This is an odd little bug. It's almost as if the engine changes something about the 3d model file, which it shouldn't if it's just reading it.

I wonder if anyone else has come across any similar difficulties?

I have never seen this problem. What option are you using to compile? The "standard" option without including media should be OK.

That's all that I can think of, that you're accidentally including the wrong version of the file with the exe. It's impossible for DBP to change the model like that. All you can do is re-save it as a .dbo file.

I have been using the 'hit F5' to compile and run as an executable.

However, the plot thickens. The above problem was when the trial was installed on my colleague's machine.

I have now installed the trial on my home machine - a clean, new install of windows with no previous version of Dark Basic on it.

NOW when I try to compile and run as an executable, I receive the message "Installation and Compiler versions are incompatible."

Considering that this is a clean install of both Windows AND Dark Basic, I am becoming increasingly concerned that this is perhaps not the product for our company. I am disappointed in this, as DB appeared to be exactly the product required for our project, and I would like to know if anyone else has had similar problems, or can suggest a way to get around this difficulty.

I downloaded the trial today and activated it this evening, and so am baffled as to why this problem occurs. I have installed no 3rd party or extra Add-Ons, DLLs etc. so this really should be a clean install.

Even the accompanying demo programs (The heron, shiny surface etc) bring up this message.

Any thoughts?

as to you question tag what is a mook? a mook is an idiot moron mooks mookie jackass douchebag midriff stupid loser culture idiots dumbass narby jerk taint fool feeb geef, lol

Anyway down to your question , i also work as a professional games designer, for a professional games company, DBpro is a very powerful easy to use software package and i have a game near to demo stage, i have never in the full version seen the bug your talking about and i can not recreate it either, all i suggest is that it must be somthing to do with the demo, you could try e-mailing Lee Bamber the creator and Lead Programmer of DBPro, and see if he has any thoughts , but trust me the full Program works Fine, and would be the best choice for most Applications that do not require having to code at a lower level.

best of luck

oh sorry the best thing as well would to tag some code on here with what you have done so far, and write a bug report for it, step by step what you do until compile. se we can try to recreate it, if your unsure about writting step by step bug reports ask your production for some pointers.

Yes, online dictionaries give one those definitions of a mook, but that's not the definition I'm talking about, hehehehe.

And I figured it wasn't a common problem, otherwise everbody would be asking about it
