Will Wright is incredibly smart. I attended a lecture of his a few months ago at work and it was informative, very interesting, and had us all in stitches for the entire duration (almost 2 hours). Here are three random Will Wright dialogs that have nothing to do with Sims or Spore:

I hope that's a joke--- Will Wright is one of the top video game designers in the industry--- a legend, and very smart. It's interesting to see him talking about non-game related things.

Kinda like a new John Romero in his pre-Daikatana days. Or Peter Molyneux before he releases his games. Or maybe a bit like Ion Storm, before all the delays?

Great men rise and fall. Always.

But this guy is kinda fun while it lasts.

Will Wright has been around circa 1988/89 in terms of games. So "fun while it lasts" isn't quite the right phrase I don't think - he's by no means a fresh new overhyped designer - he's experienced. And I have no reason to doubt that he'll deliver the goods with Spore

Aherm

Shigeru Miyamoto (the peanut gallery must be heard!)

On the other hand, Will Wright is an amazing designer, truly amazing. Spore hands down is going to be the most engaging game put out in the last ten years.
