So has anybody else heard the new Metallica single yet? I have to say I'm quite impressed, I've hate pretty much everything Metallica has done post Black album. But this is certainly a good comeback after St. Anger, Load, and ReLoad.

So what do you guys think?

I like it! It hat ~8min and it isn't boring. Even if I want it to be a bit shorter...

Left me kinda disappointed, not that I was all that excited about it in the first place but I was expecting something more. IMO if your gonna go back to an older sound, go back with some guts; not a GH3 friendly, salad sandwich of a track.

If they do make a Guitar Hero:Metallica, it better be full of classics and not this watered down stuff.

Well the full album is coming to GHIII and GH: World Tour so it probably won't be on GH: Metallica. And I don't quite get your angle from the GH3 comment.

The song sounds like it was written for GH3. IE, BORING.

PS, I just got GH3 and loves it, never played gh before (I play not necessarily for the music alone (but some tracks are awesome. Here's looking at you Cliffs of Dover))

A lot of Metallica songs are GH3/RB friendly though...

Well, first 4 albums are made for FoF. Every song. IMO most metal songs are GH/RB friendly. Even some death metal songs (never seen black metal for FoF/GH/RB)...

I used to. Now I listen to a name or two, and really only the classic stuff. Still a Travis Tritt fan (his old stuff, dunno if he has any new stuff), and then various other random songs, only when I'm in the mood really. Just sorta grew out of it I guess.

My angle is that I'm sure there's plans for GH:Metallica, which should really have come before Aerosmith's version (I mean Activision made a GH game that I won't buy, which is saying a lot). I get the feeling that they're changing their sound to suit a newer, more technically aware audience, maybe trying to win back some of those Napsters that they pee'd off back when .

There's a lot of great songs for FoF, but FoF bears no comparison to GH or RB, it's too buggy, most of the songs are arranged pretty slopily, and it's on a PC. Really I want a shedload of classic Metallica songs on RB, like what The Who just did, so I can pretend to be Lars .

My mum listens to country . It's alright, I'm more of a progressive rock/metal/anything person myself.

To be honest I'm not really that big a fan of Metallica. I can listen to their stuff if I have WMP on random, but trying to listen through a full album I get bored.

I just seen Metallica at Leeds festival a little over an hour ago.

They played The Day That Never Comes and Cyanide.

I prefer Cyanide but The day that never comes is pretty cool too

... Damn. Sounds alot like Guitar Hero III.

Anyways I'm dying to here Cyanide. And the album as a whole. Really looking forward to Death Magnetic and AC/DC's Black Ice as well.

There's a live version on you tube and livemetallica.com.

From the snippets I've heard of the new stuff it's sounding hybrid rock/thrash.

Sometimes I feel like the only one who listens to orchestral soundtracks. (Jeremy Soule is a genius, I'm not sure if he's really THAT orchestral but he sure is a genius either way.)

Metallicas old stuff is better. Mainly off the black album(their best album).

I disagree, I would not say the Black album is the best. I would choose one of the first 3 albums.

I like RtL the most. And call me a fanboy/fanatic, but i like all their albums and IMO they haven't released a bad album. Even St.Anger was not bad (but only not bad, it wasn't good)...

I'm a big lover of Master Of Puppets - Metallica early stuff is the best, so I was pretty chuffed when I went to saw them - they played the whole Master of Puppers album + most of their best songs(to celebrate 20 years of the album, and as a tribute to Cliff Burton) plus they played 4 encores and used pyrotechnics, so it was one hell of a show.

Listening to the song now: it's quite good - it beats St. Anger and all of the songs on that album and sounds a bit like Metallica is beginning to pick up their act again. But it's just one song, but no doubt I'll buy the album. But a lot of bands have a period when their music is 'below par'.

If there was a GH: Metallica every song would be difficult to play... Of course if I made a GH game (And trust me I probably will - GH fan-game anyways) all the songs would have one setting and be very difficult.... (The setting is expert, btw).

I've made some songs for that Guitar Villain game in the WIP, btw.

@Alucard94
Do you mean classical music? I don't mind listening to classical music, it's nice. I prefer heavy metal/rock though and that's what I buy when I can.

I don't mind *some* country music either. The one form of music I can't stand is rap. I really don't like rap at all.

Cheers,

Rap? Saul Williams is a fave of mine. Though he's kinda a slam poet.

And I have The Guild Wars Nightfall soundtrack. Jeremy Seoule's music all kinda starts to sound the same after awhile. I sometimes get Oblivion's theme mixed up with the Guild Wars theme. I'd much rather listen to some Video Games Live...

That really depends on what you listen to from him, I have most of his work and they're quite similar but still you can notice that they're different, I really like most of his work in games as it brings out some memories of me playing the game itself
But Jeremy Soule isn't the only one good (Obviously... Duh) there are a whole ton more I've got seemingly.
One that I just recently noticed is the greatness of the FFX soundtrack.

Or you could listen to symphonic metal (Epica, Nightwish) and get both.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, like they should be.

Classical music is groovy. Gladiator soundtrack for the win!

Same for symphonic metal, especially Nightwish (though more opera than symphonic) and of course SymphonyX and Rhapsody.

BUMPed because of new song avaible to listen to - My Apocalipse.
Nice. It's IMO better than Cyanide, but not as good as The Day.... Don't like the beginning, but rest of song is OK...
