I took a spining cube and put it in 640 x 480, 16 on full screen exclusive and it was around 75 fps. but then i put it on 640,480 on windowed(i have my desktop on 16 bit) and it was around 590 fps?.. But if i run the room demo or something its slower in windowed and faster full screen but the face demo is faster in windowed.err its confusing..why is this. in blitz basic it goes slower in windowed and faster in full screen. Btw: I have a voodoo 3 3000 card.(yea i know it sucks but o well).

It's because in fullscreen mode, DirectX is waiting for the vertical sync. Your monitor is set to display at 75Hz isn't it?

I don't know if this is true for you, but when I go into the advanced display settings, I have a tab labelled 'Direct3D' that has a button on it labelled 'Wait for vertical sync'.

If you have this, switch it off and try your test again. You'll be pleasantly suprised.

Oh, and get a new graphics card GeForce FX-5200 cards are relatively cheap, if your motherboard has AGP.

Well, not knowing where you are in the world, it's hard to say

In the UK, they're available for under £60.00 if you shop around.

I think the problem is that in windowed mode it makes a window that is 640x480 pixels and runs the game normally, but if your screen mode is set to 800x600 or 1024x768 then in fullscreen mode it has to scale each pixel so it fits the entire screen perfectly, slowing it down...the best way to fix this would be to set your display mode to 640x480 or to use the command {Set Display Mode ScreenHeight#,ScreenWidth#,ColorDeapth#} and set all the values to the current window mode...well...i hope this helps...
