I have terrestrial. PAL has a higher resolution but less frames per second, so I guess there's a tradeoff. However in February NTSC will be done away with in the United States and replaced with ATSC, a digital HD standard. It will still be available over the air though.

Ahh the new standard for UK is going to be DVB-T (digital terrestrial), DVB-S (satillite) and DVB-C (cable) i think but i was under the impression that there was no non-subscription tv service in america by that i mean tv that is free. it aslo seems that cable is the way most people get tv whereas in england most people i know have satallite or digital terrestrial, cable is common in some areas but its not availible everywhere. satillite is probably the most popular way to get tv hardly anyone has a non-subscription service as far as i know.

Yeah, everyone in America who does not already have digital cable will be forced to either buy or get a box from the government. In 2009 that is. I personally can not wait for all the people who "Didn't Know" about the switch over .

Me too. I predict it's going to be mass chaos, similar to what Y2K would have been had it done anything awesome.

I don't like how everybody says the quality of digital is superior to analog, every time I watch digital TV I see blocking on gradients and artifacts on contrasting edges.

Reminds me of watching Realplayer clips.

Yes, aerial and digital aerial is still free. The misconception may come because I would say most people in the states have cable or statelite, simply because it's better quality in a lot of places.

In big cities like Chicago, New York, LA, etc, I think most people use aerial because quality's fine there.

I personally don't get any tv You'd do well living without it for a while, you'll realize you don't miss it

My mother said that we once went for a while without tv when we were growing up and we had a lot of fun without it, we were doing family type things. I asked her why we ended up getting tv again and she was like, *shrug*. So, I dunno, I think my children would do fine without it

Well we have a satallite subscription in the living room about 1000 channels and i have digital terrestrial in my room which gives me about 40ish channels which is better than the 5 channels you get on analogue terrestrial the only thing about the digital terrestrial is that there is only about 15 channels that are good. Either way if you own a tv and use it to watch television you're quite sad/a sucker if you still use the analogue service (there's never anything good on!). I remember when we first got rid of crappy analogue terrestrial. We had a subscription with Cable and Wireless lol now theres a company who knew a good selection of channels they didnt have loads of crap channels to make it seem like an "extensive range". Nowadays theres only a few good channels and the other 985 are crap. I dont watch that much TV now i mostly use the computer to entertain me.

Well it depends where you are digital seems a lot more efficiant than analogue in terms of quality and signal coverage but i suppose that if you compare analogue cable to digital cable then there wouldn't be much of a diffrence because there isn't as much signal deterioration with cable but still of course whereas with analogue you would get a little bit of static and maybe a bit of snow you get a blocky picture with digital. but to be honest the advantages to digital are more than analogue (better bandwidth = more channels)
