Just finished sending it. Sorry about that. Expect one later this week with the optional Background section. I'd really like to fill it out for Emergence, as it's my first game, but I don't have time right now to really go through and document how I came to this.

Still haven't rec'd anything, but I'm looking forward to it. For now, it's time to go back to prison...I mean work.

That email should have reached you by now. And that reference to prison gave me a good idea... It's too bad I can't put a jail inside Emergence... I'll have to make it a single level game...

Resent. Hopefully it gets through this time. If not, I'm not sure what to do...

Congratulations on your entry into the BOTB Hall-o-Fame! You may want to update the first pic in the first post of this board; since it no longer applies.

I just played this game. It is great. It is such a nice big full level and maintained a great framerate. Really well done. Exploring the level was a lot of fun and it wasn't too hard to beat even for a bad gamer like me. It was really great fun!

Congratulations on best of the best!

You should find the secret room and check out the bounce rocket launcher, Dennis.

Sorry for late response. Just got round to playing it. I think the level was good, except in the sewer I was stuck for a good while trying to find out where to go next. I don't like the idea of having one of the random little side areas having a door in it. After passing several empty ones it throws you slightly. I also thought that section was too dark, as I only found the door when I increased the ambience

Other than that, it was well designed. I liked the outside scene.

I just got around to playing it. I really enjoyed it. Level design was top-notch, with good entity placement and flow. It really reminded me how much I need a new computer, though; even when I had the textures divided all the way, the framerate was awful at a couple points. All that aside, great level, and I look forward to the rest--and congratulations on making Best of the Best.

@butt monkey, Thanks for the great review. The sewers were unintentionally that dark. In an earlier build, they were a little lighter, but somehow darkened as more and more builds passed...

@Cardboard Box
(First off, simply awesome name)
Thanks also for the good review. I tried my best to optimize this level, although, having a really good computer only allows you to go so far with that. On my computer, it's a steady 38 FPS the whole way through. (Aside from one spot, which has been glitchy around that one entity in any map I use it in)

Yeah, my computer is incredibly old though (bought in 2003), so that's probably why I had some trouble.

Also, just noticed you're a Portland resident. Salem here. Oregon represent.

Wow. In the last 6 days, according to my site statistics, I've had 412 downloads of EmergenceInfiltration.zip. Just wow. (That's not mentioning the 10000 forum views over the last 6 days.)

Just played the demo and it was pretty good! Couple of things though

- Some of the guns at the beginning didn't have any texture.
- The ladder (where the launcher is), I jumped from the stairs onto it and I just kept sailing up until I hit the ceiling, at which point I fell and couldn't climb back up the ladder.
- Perhaps a checkpoint at the top of the lift so you don't have to start from the beginning?

Nice work and well done on your BOTB!

Thanks. I edited the above post with a better screen, by the way. Also, when would be a good time to start a different thread for Detonation? I have a good portion of the segments done. I just have to work some kinks out, get the lighting done and place entities. Then Detonation can be released.

Okay. I'll make it soon. And a quick poll on this game. What was the average framerate that everyone got? With this info, I can better optimize Detonation.

How many chapters will this game have?

For my framerate I got a nice, smooth 30 - 35

Actually djmaster, and everyone else for that matter, that was a typo. There will be 3 chapters. Infiltration, Detonation and Extraction. Each will take place in a fairly different environment.

i got around 20 average, but every time i came encounter with the enemys my framrate would drop in the negitives (maybe not hte negitives, but so slow that it made it unplayable over a couple of times.)
I actually closed it before i got to beat it from frustration. the lagspikes were just so unbareable, i felt like i was playing a game, where instead of animations and real time fighting, it was just a picture, that would change every second.

I got a pretty good fps, I'm actually suprised of this because my pc is quite a crappy one bought in 2004, so good work on that. Liking the new screens!

Best.

On my awful PC, it ran at around 30 frames per second in empty areas, dipping down to about 20 in the outdoor areas, and sometimes dropped down to like 10 when enemies were around. On my friend's more recent machine, it ran at about 25-30 fps.

The PC I played it on was an Alienware from 2003 (1GB RAM only); it ran smoothly.

Thanks guys! It's really cool to see my game inside the official newsletter! Only one thing... They showed the screen from Emergence: Detonation as an Emergence: Infiltration screen. Oh well. Now to go check the stats to see how many times the game has been downloaded in the last week...
