Hi there. I was looking at the geek culture which usually, but not always, characterizes a programmer, and I think that being a computer geek doesn't exactly mean what many people imagine it is.
Many of you probably (or for sure) are very good at computers, especially in game programming, even the beginners, but I was just wondering if it was right to also be able to cultivate and develop other abilities not related to computers.
I don't know if you are like me (probably some), but appart from game programming, I also play piano and guitar (mostly I prefer piano), I am a young mathematician, and also I love to write (even I am writing a fantasy novel). Although many people see me like I don't have a serious and unique objective, these abilities help me a lot when game-making, for I am able to compose my own background music (you will see soon some of my pieces), and also write stories for them, without needing to take from others or use some help.
I don't know if it was normal, but i just wanted to share this and maybe find someone who is like me, a poli-task man as I can call these people. Hope to hear your opinions soon

Have a nice day

Aside from programming, I play piano, bowl, write, do photography, and ride my bike. Most of those aren't very serious hobbies, but they're relaxing and fun.

I'm pretty heavily into graphics design, as well as bowling, golf, playing video games, walking outside in thunderstorms, going to the beach... I do all sorts of computer related stuff, hardware, software, whatever. I'm pretty much a jack of all trades and master of none as they say.

I also do level design, some programming, bike riding.....and make movies. (Well, not real ones, obviously lol).....

In no way do I mean this offensively, but all the hobbies listed thusfar are highly geekish, with the possible exception of bike riding

Be proud of who you are. You're pretty much certainly a geek if you post on this forum, stop trying to convince yourself or others that you aren't: it's fine to be one.

I usually kill people. Oh wait that was in GTA4.
My hobbies are drawing, skateboarding, and programming. Who needs friends?! (I do )
Just joking! I really don't need friends.

So with my drawing skillz I am able to do concept art for games.

Edit,
I also play in a band but I forgot I did. Our drummer is currently in USA so we haven't practiced for a long time.

I'm a drummer for the Portland Trailblazers NBA team. I occasionally will play at their games and such. I'm also head of my schools drumline. I do graphic design on my new VisTablet graphics pad and love playing golf and baseball.

My main hobby is keeping my wife happy.

After that it's videogames, writing music, day trading on the stock market, and ---- buying game engines and not using them.

I guess except my awful love of Graphics Design I draw a bit, not the best but I'm getting better, and errmm... I like being with friends I guess? I'm not sure, now when I think about it, the computer is most of what I got in life (Except GF, although that is still in process ) which is kind of sad.

It's geekish when you're using your bike to get to Best Buy!

3D Graphics, Karate (though I've not been able to train much), playing games, co-running a society of writers and storytellers at University, I'm buying myself a bike next week and am going to use that to get fit again and no doubt will be signing up to do badminton at the university. I'm also into writing fiction (and non-fiction) and research interesting topics and reading various fictional and non-fictional books. I also enjoy watching lives bands and going to metal festivals.

I just do whatever's fun really - I like sports but never really got into them, but wish I had. Of course I will never deny the fact I'm a geek.

Haha, I've had a slight tendancy of aquiring things I don't use - though only one of them I've purchased (Torque), the other I tend to just procrastinate with the demos.

You sir have the moral ambivalence of a mutated shrimp!
