I'm looking for good horror movies, *not* just another Jason vs Freddy movie which was more about dismembering teenagers than striking true fear in the audience. Any suggestions?

Strangers. It's relatively new. It's at the point where it's not in theaters anymore but not quite yet dvd. Most horror movies I find aren't "horror" at all. Strangers, however, was very thrilling.

What I associate with horror is the supernatural, extraterrestrial, or "unknown" in general.

So if you are like me and prefer stuff like that, you should check out some japanese horror movies (they are the best), IT (by stephen king), The Shining (also stephen king) and my favourite; Alien 2.

I allways afraided from a clowns. aww..

Just go for something you would like watching asking people what do watch is pretty stupid as we all have oppinions on different films. So we may hate it but you may like it..

I've recently watched "Funny Games", with Tim Roth.

Its a pretty good film, very tense.

Spice Girls the Movie

Far Easterns are great for horror/thriller/chiller films, one I liked was made in Korea, 'A Tale of Two Sisters', it's more psycholical and emotional, but it has a level of creepiness and an 'ohhhh' factor to it.

I don't know if you'd class Battle Royale 1 and 2 into this category, but they were quite enjoyable, despite the amount of dying Japanese students, but then it's about Japanese students sent to an Island to compete for survival by killing each other, so lots of violence and well made. (Well the first one was about that, the second was students are sent to stop a terrorist) The plots sound strange, but definitely worth watching.

Any of Stephen King based movies, well not any, some can be silly. If you're into old stuff, the Chucky movies, or Return of the Living Dead or stuff like that, An American Werewolf in London (This movie I found amusing, a director underestimating the geography of England, person is attacked in a village in York and wakes up in a hospital in London) or even Company of Wolves based off of Angela Carter's twist of 'Little Red Riding Hood' - these I suppose are oldies, but I liked them.

Alternatively there's Pan's Labrynth (Spanish, I think)- not scary as such, but it's quite emotional and quite depressing, but a great movie none-the-less.

I would say that the ninth gate is quite creepy, along with seven - that's a really good horror film that cam out quite a long time ago.

My all time fave horror movie has to be Pumpkinhead, it's so atmospheric and creepy. The story is completely beside the usual fare though, all about vengeance and regret. I mean usually horror movies involve some pee'd off monster who likes to kill college kids and tourists for the hell of it - in Pumpkinhead you can actually relate to the monster.

If you like horror movies and haven't seen it yet, go buy the DVD .

I'm yet to find a horror movie genuinely scary. Only thing that ever creeped me out was the Borg, and I'm over that now. I just don't find things on a screen scary, even in a dark room.

I'm the same NeX, too much Freddy Krueger as a kid .

One thing that really creeped me out, to the point where I don't like watching was the disfigured aunt in Pet Semetary, the bit where she's in the room then suddenly rushes towards the camera. I think it's scariest when it's something that can actually afflict people in real life.

Probably the scariest film I've seen has to be 28 days later, that's about 100 times scarier than any zombie movie I've seen.

Same here. The only half-decent one I've seen recently is Silent Hill. The others are mostly "Whoops! There goes your arm... and your head...".

Anyone seen "The Signal"? A supposed horror movie.

I didn't know it was a horror movie until after the film and I read the description on the back.

I thought it was a comedy My movie analyzation skills definitely needs improvement.

The Eye freaked me out a little bit. It has Jessica Alba in it to. That's always a plus!

I like "Alien". I personally didn't find it incredibly scary because you'd see someone walking around and Oh no, some gooey stuff! Then you see the alien's face and its inner mouth come out and that's it. It was a good movie overall though.

Some classic horror movies...

-Salem's Lot (The old one)
-Rose Red (A long but very scary horror movie)
-IT (By far the scariest one I know of)
-The Shining (Stanley Kubrick's version)
-Creepshow (Very amusing, dark-humored horror shorts with a cartoon in between each horrific tale)
-Cujo (You'll never want to touch another dog again)
-Arachnophobia
-Pet Semitary (Yes, it's spelled like that)
-Needful Things (Your own materialism can kill you)
-Willard (A very creepy movie about a lonely man living with rats)
-People Under the Stairs (A very good escape thriller)

Jack Nicholson, yes. Kim Basinger, no. Shelly Duvall? Yes.

That is my favourite movie of all time

EDIT:

Has anyone seen this ad on UK TV? It's amazing!

The Signal was quite a decent film, more of a soft psychological horror film really, I did however create a loop of the signal recording and tried to watch it for an hour or two. It only creeped me out when I set it play on my headphones when I went to sleep. So creepy dreams happened during that episode. So all in all if you want the true horror listen to the signal when asleep, I wont spoil the fun for you but to be honest you will never look at what you dreamed about in the same way ever again.

Does anyone else agree that Silent Hill (the movie) was particularly creepy (even after the movie ended) for some reason...?

As a die hard fan of the Silent Hill series of games, no. I thought the Silent Hill movie was cheesy and butchered the source material. But that could just be my fandom speaking.
