Hey yall. I live in Western USA (Washington), and am wondering what colleges there are out there. I'm aiming for some branch of computers, but I'm not even sure what to do.

This is mainly my "What should I do for college?" board. I want ideas. Any idea you can pitch, I'll be willing to listen.

Location should be relatively close, but if there is a "YOU HAVE TO GO TO" place, I'd be willing to consider it. I'm not wealthy, so I'd have to start filling out with scholarships (which I'm going to be doing for quite some time ).
Also, what classes should I take, or do I need to take (prerequisites)? And what plan should I do? Should I fill out 2 years at a community college and then go major in something? or just go to a 4 year uni? Which would you suggest? I'm wanting to do some sort of computer programming thing, not entirely sure what I want to do exactly, be it web programming, os/app or game. So I'm not sure what to look for.

I'd greatly appreciate suggestions.
Thanks for the help guys.

I'm going to Neumont University in Utah. It's actually an AMAZING program. It's quite intense, as they cram 4 years of work into 2. But it's so worth it. They have great accreditation and employers LOVE Neumont graduates. The average Neumont student graduates with a $68,000 salary. It's very project centered, so there's not a lot of lectures. They teach you by having you actually DO things. And as you get into your second year you start working on projects for companies.
I could go on and on. But I won't here. Check out their site. It IS rather expensive, but it's an investment. I love it so far. It's a really good program. It's worth you checking out.

and check this site out as well.

I'm just in my first quarter, so I'm taking their intro classes. Wish I would've tested out. Intro to C# (I've programmed in C# for years) and Topics in Software Development are the two big classes. Really easy. But they have all sorts of good classes. Another class is a Business and Ethics class. It mainly is about how to take what you learn in school and apply it to work, and also they throw in "don't do illegal stuff". It's actually a good class. Required at Neumont. Next quarter it'll pick up a bit more for me with a more advanced programming class, and some database classes. I think I'll also be taking my Calc and English classes. Not sure... I'm going to have to look at that.

-.-" Besides their focus is more on the law side, opposed to technology, which is why I asked on this forum, seeing as how most of you are in college or graduated from college. I'd like to hear what you guys are doing, just to get an idea on what I want to do.

I don't know much about this college, but you might want to take a look into, DeVry University.

I've read on these very forums before (and heard around) that schools like that DO teach you things, but they aren't good for having a fallback option. I'd rather get something general, so I can learn more than 1 job for the rest of my life.

You got it backwards dabip. The program descriptions at DeVry make it sound like you'd learn something specific, but it's really just an intro to many things. From a knowledge point of view, it's rather broad area of learning.

Take it from a DeVry graduate, do NOT waste your money on that so-called university.

Gone to a real college. DeVry also had me take more english classes than if I went for a similar degree at OSU. Programming classes are ok for beginners (depending on your teacher), but if you take one online you may as well quit because you won't learn anything. They basically just show you the pages of code to put into your program and run it. So unless you fail at copy and pasting, you'll pass it but you won't know how to program ASP from scratch.

If you had any choice in the US, what would you have chosen?

Any choice? MIT hands down! I heard a kid from my HS applied there with a 4.0 and was denied. I almost considered a school in PA for a nanotechnology program.

Well I'm sure they don't just look at your GPA that would be stupid.

Geeze, I certainly don't have a 4.0 S: MIT you say? Where is it at? I think I've heard about it before.

And you non-US-ers are more than welcomed to post your ideas and what not.
