What about modifying the BVG's hoverboard script by adding huds and other things?

Whilst vehicles in FPSC is a good idea in concept and technical achievement, I'm not so sure about the practicality.

The FPSC game engine is designed for internal environments with rooms and corridors hence the use of segments.

Limited outdoor scenes are achievable with playable framerates but require careful planning and compromise.

First person shooters using vehicles to good effect e.g. battlefield allow for much larger maps than FPSC.

FPSC is more comparable with call of duty 4 which also does not support vehicles. Its better for creating tight, detailed environments with a mixture of buildings and open spaces big enough to explore without taking you out of the action.

Like call of duty 4, it would be more realistic to try scripting a useable fixed gun emplacement for a heavy machinegun etc.

If you use FPSC to its strengths you can make a very good game but vehicles just don't play to those strengths at the moment.

Unless you've got a lot of spare time on your hands I'd try another area of scripting such as AI.

Anyway I played Quake Wars and UT3 recently which both feature vehicles and they were poorly implemented. In my opinion only battlefield has been successful in doing this so maybe leave it to them for the time being hey.

@Nomad Soul:

I personally loved the Halo vehicles.

It seems you're only comparing MP games for vehicle usage.

Your right. I guess I was only thinking about vehicles for multiplayer use. The Halo vehicles are pretty good so I take that point aswell although I'd suggest probably more fun in MP than SP.

I watched your video and the vehicle demo at the end is really impressive so congrats on that. Would it be possible to keep the character perspective in first person then switch to 3rd person for vehicles as thats how I prefer to play?

What about shooting though. In all of these 3rd person mod features I've never seen anyone actually firing a weapon? especially in something like a tank.

I might be wrong. Perhaps vehicles could be used in FPSC but there appears to be much in the way of development required before we can start getting excited about it unless just using them for a quicker means of transportation.

@Nomad Soul:

Getting the vehicle to fire is not problem at all... getting it to fire realistically would be a problem though. A tank wouldn't be so much an issue as it would for a machine gun, though. See, the humvee is actually a character entity, so you could easy set up a turret or a cannon on it as it's weaon, then just tell it to "useweapon" whenever the user clicks while driving it. Flak weaponry isn't as much of a problem for that sort of thing (as we have since found out with "Allies")

Having the third person character shoot would be the same situation.

Basically, character entities can be told to fire whenever you want, but having them AIM when you want is the only problem. On top of not having verticle angle adjustment, they only fire straight forward. So, no rotating the top portion of the tank, unless you set up two seperate entities as the tank itself.

Binding an entity to another entity may become a reality with ply's Mod later on. That would allow for the rotating top of the tank.

Plyrstine, could you explain how to mount a gun onto a vehicle? Like, explain the script so we could add it to your script for the Humvee?

Okay, here's how to mount a gun on a vehicle:

- Go find a tutorial on how to make characters that are compatible with FPSC.
- Read through and learn from the tutorial.
- When you're done, go to the next step.

- Okay, remember that part in the tutorial about how the character holds the gun, and where on the character's model the gun is supposed to show up? .... Good!
- Remodel your vehicle to have this "firespot" at the place where the gun should be mounted.
- Import it into FPSC *AS A CHARACTER*
- Start FPSC, place your vehicle character, go into it's properties and give it the gun you want to mount on it.
- Test your game and the vehicle should have a mounted gun which can be fired with the "useweapon" FPI command.

*End tutorial*

I made a simple tank, where one of the animations was to rotate the turret 360 degrees. Then, I just set the animations in its config file to be in about 45 degree increments. It's similar to how the tanks in games like Medal of Honor work
