Like Castlevania Lament of Innocence or Resident Evil, I want to create a script where I can move back and forth through levels so that I don't have to remake the same ones. Making one large level or a long sequence of level copies is much less lucrative than moving back and forth.

I also thought it would be cool to provide the player with a safety room where enemies are prohibited from entering.

Can anyone provide me with some pointers or ideas? Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need one of the mods floating about (can't remember which one) in the Chat section. FPSC as is cannot do what you're asking.

Ply's Mod features a nextlevel FPI action that allows one to set which level number goes next.

Yes, Ply's Mod will allow you to backtrack to a previous level, and through proper scripting and setting of variables you can have different things happen the second time around. (Or third, even )

Um... yes, it has been for quite some time now.

Hehe, never cease to impress I suppose. I'll have to look through that thread again, I obviously missed some detail. Thanks a lot!

You could just make it easy and load the level again and then rename it

@rakker126:

How is Copy/Paste going to solve the problem of level select? Or mission select?

One of the great things about Ply's mod is the capability of selecting any level that is within the compiled game. It then depends on the scripting you are able to do plus making good use of the great variable system it has. The only drawback now is that even though Plys v1.06 is the most stable it is still a mod of FPSC v1.07. Plys mod v1.07 is not as stable (he admits to that of course) but if you are not planning on doing anything except for yourself, relatives and friends, then it would be a great mod to play around with. However, if you are planning on making games that will be used, say, in an educational environment or if you want to try your hand at selling your game, I wouldn't recommend it. BTW, I have used Plys Mod 1.06 for one game and another game has been planned. I love it. I just don't like the fact that it has to be restricted to FPSC 1.07. However, I do use v1.09 because I like the map editor improvements and Plys mod works well with it. I am currently working on a game that will use FPSC v1.13 (final release)

The forum's FPSC scripting guru (Ply) is very correct in stating that the copy/paste will not add that much depth to the game although it is a little more possible with the FPSC's variable system in place to make things a little different the second time around for a particular level. Unfortunately you cannot give the player a choice in the matter as it has to be the level YOU decide he will re-visit next and so it has to be somehow incorporated into the game story.

I'd say this is my two cents worth but with the American economy the way it is now, that definitely is not worth much.

Ooops sorry about that. Just a joke, not wanting a debate here.

Oh sure, blame the modder!!

It may also be of interest in this topic to state that efxMod has also recently incorporated a level swapping FPI command. (Go figure THAT one, lol)
