Atlas at Spiral Graphic told me that Gentica 3.0 beta 5 was now open to the public now, I have been beta testing it for few days and this program is great for making textures for segment or for model textures also, it will make decals in pack cube form that work in FPSC. I just though I'd let everyone know.

check it out here

Actually I think I ready a thread here a couple years ago that had the free Wood Workshop program from Spiral Graphics that a forum member found and posted a link in that thread and that is how I found out about Genetica, I actually own a Genetica 2.5 license that is how I found about the beta.

This all looks very good until you get to the price

Buy now price

Basic = $99
Pro = $299
Studio = $699

Buy after release price

Basic = $149
Pro = $399
Studio = $899

Looks like another download the beta, use to breaking point then bin after release.

The basic version doesn't include normal map support so this will cost $299 minimum.

Enjoy the beta

Has anyone used this to get a decal into fpsc?

While the product does look a little pricey, just crank out as much stuff as you can while it's free!!

Genetica has been around for quite awhile, all this is is a newer version... Which looks fantastic.
I know this is on my shopping list when Beta has finished...Till then, beta...

Considering what Genetica is capable of and the fact that they GIVE you Wood Workshop and the Genetica Viewer (which contains lots of royalty free textures for you to do whatever you want with...no restrictions whatsoever) I think the price is reasonable.
If you're somebody who occassionally dabbles in game making it may not be worth it to you but if you serious about game development the price is nice and when you compare it to other apps of this quality it's a bargain.
At any rate definitely do use Wood Workshop and the Genetica Viewer.They definitely will come in handy.

Punk13@ only personal use when using this beta according to the license agreement

Nomad Soul@ you can still buy the standard version make your texture then use Shader Map Pro to generate the normal, specular etc. maps for your textures if you don’t want to spend $300

fallen one@ no limitations except for personal use only

Uthink@ yes I was able to get the stock animated TV snow decal that was in Genetica into FPSC without any problems I just copied the decal spec files from a stock FPSC decal then renamed it. Video attached

Matuka@ already own a license just waiting for the update lol

FredP@ I agree with you 100%

fallen one@ what I meant was by no limitations is that none of the functions are disabled in this beta, allot of company’s disable features like export and save in there apps during beta testing or demos, and yes after the beta testing is over you are to stop using it, and buy a license if still want to use it,

In theroy one could keep using it after the date, all be it un ethical, is this correct?
If so, this is interesting, as its something I thought of doing, give things for free and ask for donations, or give the program and ask for a licence beyond a trail date, or one could ask people to pay what they think something is worth to them as well, which is another way of doing things, it asks people to be sensible which I prefer this kind of open way of doing business.
