When I compile a sample programme, I get Directx errors, variously telling me Directx isn't loaded or version is wrong.

DXDiag tells me I have DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) installed.

Any ideas?

If in doubt, just install the latest version from the Microsoft website. DirectX 9.0c is updated at least bi-monthly.

OK,

I've updated the Directx runtimes and Nvidia drivers and at least I can compile and run one exapmle i.e. the water demo (at over 400 fps?).

Flowing fluids - pressing space does nothing (at 765fps) and selecting [2] or [3] crahes the programme. Fluids and Force Fields just crash.

The Template demo - nothing works - is it supposed to?

So, basically, whatever the reason/s, I cannot say that I'm impressed. Sorry.

Okay, thanks, I must have missed the bit where it said I required these drivers!

Anyway, I appear to be stuffed, as I am running with a Nvidia GeForce GO 7950 GTX, on my Dell laptop, and this doen't appear to be supported. So, for the time being, I'll take another look at DBPRO only.
