Hey everyone, seeing as this is a gaming themed forum I am amazed to see that there isnt an online gaming "event" system (maybe it has something to do with time zone issues).

For those of you who dont know what im talking about, it is something that I have seen done on many other gaming forums.
around about every week somebody comes to the thread and posts the details of a online game session they are organising e.g.

Date: ......
Time: ......
Time Zone (For our lovely multinational forum): ......
Game: ......
Server IP: ......
Password: ......

and any other information they want

then if anyone is interested in checking out the skill of other forum goers, they can join the server at the organised time and play to their hearts content.

for servers, the best option would be to do something like rent one (e.g. gamearena.com) or if you own one thats even better.

who here would be interested in starting a system like this?

ah, well, this sort of stuff has happened in the past, with age of empires 2, team fortress 2, counter strike and various mmo's. why not try to start one yourself with a game you're particularly interested in, and see who follows?

The server is my CS 1.6 clan's public beginners server, I can toy with some settings(such as enabling awps) for if any TGCers come on. There's also the option of using the scrim server if we want, but it has less on it, in terms of maps and plugins.

In CS I'm ~SiN~ Juggalo_5 ^^^. I don't necessarily expect to see anyone show up saturday, but one can always hope, eh?

i dont think i will be on (6:00PM for you is 4:00AM for me )

thats the problem with time zomes, but im sure that if this takes off, we'll find some way around it (maybe a heap of matches for each region)

EDIT: Whoops mistook CST for GMT, maybe we should use GMT +/- whatever as a convention

Well I live in Sweden, and I have no idea of time zones at all. All I know is I am about 9 hours a head of people who live in Arizona. (I have a friend there.) So I probably won't join.

6PM CST is 12:00AM GMT. As the UK is your first stop-off after leaving the east coast of America, you have probably excluded the majority of Europe, Africa and Asia, although Japan may just be waking up to join in.

i just dont play cs 1.6

here's an idea, for those of us who have xfire, lets create a TGC group? for those unfamiliar, xfire is a messenger system designed for gamers, it'll auto detect when you're playing a game, and show it in your status. anyone who has the same game will be able to click yourname on their buddy list and then "join game" and it'll proceed to load the game and auto connect you to your friends server.

edit: here we go: http://www.xfire.com/clans/thegamecreators/

Who plays 1.6? Source is where it's at

If someone could host up a source match, I'd be happy to play, as long as it's a reasonable time in EST. I might be able to host... but I'm on a laptop so... it's a good laptop but I'm not sure how much problems it would cause.

EDIT: Actually, the clan I'm freeloading off of right now would probably let me use their dedicated server during the day because no one is on then. If I made the CS:S Match for, lets say, 3 or 4 PM EST, would that work? What time is that for you guys? And who plays Counter Strike Source?

I had a TGC online birthday party last December, it was a lot of fun, though a lot of people weren't able to connect properly. I don't have a lot of online PC games worth doing multiplayer through, but here's the list:

GTA2
BF1942
BFV
BF2
Civ4
MSFS2004 (not that flying from airport to airport can be competitive lol)
R6-3

I'm a huge fan of the earlier Battlefield games, and I'm planning on getting Bad Company for PS3 when I can. Agent Dink and I play BF2 sometimes, I'd love to get some people together for that.

How about moving that to 1pm CST then? That should open it up for a few more people. It just means that I have to wake up at some decent hour saturday. So, if it works better, then it would be

you can purchase it through steam either individually or in a bundle. i'd opt for the bundles as they're pretty good bargains:

source (most recent): http://store.steampowered.com/app/240/
1.6 (old but still played a lot): http://store.steampowered.com/app/10/

Various reasons, from what I've heard. My main reason is that I'm broke. Even if I had CSS it probably wouldn't run well on this computer, because of my graphics, they're intel integrated. I can't even get above 20fps in smoke on CS 1.6. I've also heard, but can't confirm, that it's harder to aim on 1.6? Some people like the challenge I suppose. But I wouldn't really know anything about that, never played source.

CS:S costs $20... my little brother who just turned 13 just bought it lol.

Harder to aim? I don't think so. Maybe it's harder to aim cause the game sucks, but I think source is harder and more realistic. The guns actually react in different ways, and you need to take note in compensating your aim when using the weapons. For instance, when bursting with the AK, move your cursor bottom left because the recoil goes top right.

1) it has better gameplay and is actualy harder then source.
2) it has actualy been classed as one of the best multiplayer games out there.
3) the customization scale is massive, there's tons of modder's out there, such as Teh_snake, who does lots of stalker and cs1.6 re-texture's, and then there's Millenima, he is actualy one of the best game customization'er's out there for cs/css.
4) the games a classic, its team play at its heart too, not just run and gun like doom.
5) VALVe goldsource games are good games.
6) I`m running out of things
7) I`m running out of numbers...
8) yeah, I am running out of numbers...

Steam, or you could try and get one of the older WON versions, I have a WON version, WON came before steam btw...
there are WON re-creation projects out there... which I guess is cool.

As for the first part, congrats to your brother having more money than me. I'll be putting out job applications again soon though.

As for harder to aim, I dunno. But what you just described for CSS applies to 1.6 as well. The AK is among the hardest spray control, it's better to burst.

they annoying thing is, that the most efficient way for this to work is for it to have its own board, that way there can be multiple threads that contain the info and people can say whether or not they will attend in there, as well as have after game discussions

but it might be a while, if at all, before this shows enough interest to warrant a new board

That's a great idea - a TGC games board. I really like the sound of that, especially if there's some old stuff on there I've got.

Afraid not my freind.
If you spray downwards at a enemy from head to toe, its easyier, and most shots will hit.
I'll whip up a small example for you.

Also, if you're a member of FPSBanana, you can get gametracker and some other modules for you're profile, but game tracker tracks you're games and also there's a gametracker signature module that allows you to generate a Html signature, which changes... and you can also convert it to bbcode...

Depends where you play. You can turn any FPS into a 'doom' game. If you've ever played in CAL, you know counterstrike is far from doom. It's very tactical and strategic, but I guess you can make the same case for 1.6.

Can you surf in 1.6?

*is still waiting for a cs:s match...*

How many people would be interested in a CS:S match if I reserved my friends server? They are in the middle of CAL-IM, so if I reserve it, people better show up.

How about a Dota match then? I can host and have both list checker and banlist. Anyone up for a TGC Dota match? My time zone is EST.
