If you have the new iPhone 3G, your USB power adapter may possibly have its metal prongs broken off in electrical outlets. Apple is asking that you do use them and only charge through the usb cable until the replacements are available.

Hmmm would have been handy to know about this yesterday before I bought my iPhone . Luckily I have a UK one though so it doesn't effect me.

Heh, Apple can't even get the power supply right.

*just kidding*

Doesn't bode well, though, does it?

Be thankful this is relatively pre-emptive (i.e. they didn't wait until someone died before releasing this exchange program)

Would've been special if someone died from broken prongs. Appears they screw up, luckily for them this news probably won't reach the masses.

Err, you realise we're talking about prongs that go into a mains electrical output, right? As in, they could break off whilst unplugging and electrocute the user

It was the headline on Apple's site when I started up the college iMac this morning. And then Safari crashed. And then, in a swirling vortex of irony, Mac OS X declared it was not affected and locked up itself. Another fine Apple product.

Ah well, at least it's stylish.

If I had a choice, I'd use a PC. Even if it was a 266mHz Pentium II with 32Mb of RAM I'd use it over the iMac. What kind of inconsiderate imbecile puts the mouse on the right hand side of the keyboard with a short wire and then implements a Kensington lock so I can't put it on the other side?

With a mouse, yes. I find it difficult to use a mouse with my right hand; no accuracy. With a pen/pencil though? Right hand. Use a knife and fork left handed.

Just plain awkward, you might say.

I'm left handed but prefer my mouse on my right. I eat with a knife in the left hand and fork on the right. Fork in the left hand when no knife is used.

My eating habits are now available for your intellectual perusal.

Umm what? That is completely inaccurate, you can put your mouse on every side you want on a mac. I don't get where people get these rumors. And yes, I have had it on both sides very many times. And through my experience macs don't crash as often as people like to think that they do, sure they crash every once in a while, but barely often.
I've only had crashes in separate applications on my mac, as much or less than I did when I was using Windows, I've never actually experienced OSX to "Lock up and crash" in 1.5 years of time of hard usage.
And no I'm not a fanboy or anything, it's just sort of ridiculous that people seem to think that macs are so awful when they're really not.

And I realize why you would hate macs, I mean, the stereotypical "mac user" is always the arrogant bastard who thinks he's above everything, and I hate that as much as you do, no OS is better than the other one, it's all about whatever you prefer to use.

Yes, well this is a college and they don't want people nicking mice.

You likely had the luxury of setting it up yourself instead of having some dimwit only give you 32mb of space, of which fills quickly with bloated software spewing cache everywhere.

It's the same with Windows, it crashes way less than what some people would think, and when I do get a crash, it's a single program, not the entire windows.

And aside from a badly designed operating system, like I said, they DON'T look good, and the fact that the hardware is locked, when it is supposed to be used as a desktop, is a really bad choice on Apples part.

I dont agree if you are hardcore user. My windows had gazillion times more proplems than now.. My windows did always got some strange proplems. It slowed down every week, and after year or two it always got proplem where it could not recover. Last time my screen started flashing and computer was uber slow.. And after i restarted i got blue screen of death.

Thats when i had enoug of reinstalling windows and installed linux (Also when it seems i cant even register any windows with my serial because its used too much... Bah.)

But what you did was make it sound like all macintosh computers out there didn't allow you to connect your mice to your left side, you never said anything about any college.

Did I say Windows crashed all the time? No I didn't, I have nothing against Windows and I use it on a regular basis, I know it doesn't crash as much as Apple likes to think it does, as Apple are arrogant bastards at times. And I understand that it is your opinion that the OS in that sake is bad, but you can't start saying that officially the OS is bad, what you're doing is thinking that it's a fact that an OS is bad because you think so, people use Macs, not because they're pretty or better than windows, but because they want to use macs, whether that they want to use them because that it's their opinion that it's better than Windows is besides the point. And yes I use macs on a regular basis not because I think that Windows is the worst OS ever invented or that I praise Steve Jobs like a religion, but because I GOT a mac, I went online one day when I needed a computer, and I stumbled across a macintosh computer that seemed nice, and wow, I got it, what a surprise right?
And I do agree with you that making the iMac completely locked down for the average user to upgrade is a ridiculous choice by Apple, whether it makes it more "simple" or not, although there are ways of opening it up, you just remove the screen and unscrew a few screws and you can pretty much open it, but that's most likely too much hassle for the "average user".
That macs in some peoples eyes "look good" is again, just a matter of opinion, Apple probably tries their best at making the computers that they make look good but it's all down to personal preference, if you think it looks good or not, and besides, people don't use macs because of their looks, that would just be idiotic.
And before anyone thinks anything different, I'm not a fanboy, not even close, the entire "OS War" thing is completely ridiculous since you're basically arguing a matter of personal preference, you use what you think is better to use, and that's really all there is. I use mainly macs, but I also use windows, and I have had no issues what so ever with Windows so far.

I suppose it's different for different people, as you mention, "my windows" is really only your own computer, people seem to (And I don't mean you on this one, don't think I do, it's just a example since you got me to bring it up by saying "my windows" ) think that because they have some sort of issue with a OS or anything for that matter, everyone else in the world is, and therefor, the product that has you are having the issue with is worthless. And that's just simply arrogant and stupid.

I don't like to argue like this, I tend to stay out of it, especially since it really doesn't seem to have anything to do with the topic, but I just couldn't resist.

That sort of behavior isn't the OS: it's user error. Seriously, it doesn't do that without a lot of things being screwed with.

Agreed, that's my point really, people seem to have windows installed on their computer (Or any other OS for that matter, but lately it's sort of been mostly Windows) and when they get some sort of issue, which is most likely caused by something that they did and can be easily fixed they seem to instantly respond with that the OS officially sucks for everyone now, "I mean I have an issue, therefor everyone else with the OS because I can't have caused the issue myself, damn this OS sucks", which sort of pisses me off.

And it seems to work the other way around as well, when people get something that they really like, OS or not, it seems as if they start to get overexcited about it and have to go and yell people in the face how awesome it is, and they seem to think that just because for them their product is great, every other product is inferior, and go parading of yelling how bad the other product is, which is most likely what causes all these "Wars" around the internet, where people argue personal preference.
I mean, again, you probably get what you want to get because you want to get it, what someone else says shouldn't inflict upon your personal preference one bit, and even if it does, it's still your choice. And then there are the kind of people who just seem to base their lives on trying to force people to get something different to what they have because the one that they have now is "worthless" which is utter and pure BS, depending on the thing that is called "worthless" of course, whether or not it is actually worthless is vital.

One thing I don't get though is why so many people keep walking around yelling that Windows suck because it crashes a lot or is slow or something like that, which they probably do because they either had a few crashes themselves or because someone's already told them, which was one of the issues Vista had at the start, people seemed to directly think that it was a piece of worthless rubbish because of that someone of a few people got a lot of crashes, and now when most those issues are fixed they still seem to think that, which is ridiculous.

And on the iPhone topic, the iPhone is a good product, I mean people seem to want to bash it for no reason, it's a good phone, and sure it has issues, as every other piece of machinery on this planet, but it's still a pretty good phone, not the best obviously since at this day there really isn't any "best" or "worst", there are just different products.

Uhhhh yea, locked how? Maybe the mobo and chipset, but thats about it. And that is done for a very good reason, stability. Oh, and I think they look quite nice. No stupid lights or windows like on all these dumb "gamer" PCs.

I run Windows 2k/XP and Mac perfectly fine without major issues. Mac has never crashed, and I can't even recall the last time I saw BSOD in Windows (not counting vista here). So stop arguing because neither side will win.

Breaking the law vs. charging for a non-critical upgrade. Can kind of see why they did it.

I do agree that it is ridiculous of Apple to charge for the 2.0 update for the iPod Touch users out there, and the only explanation Apple seems to have for that is that they count differently for the iPod Touch and the iPhone, which sounds like bs to me.
And yes the iPhone is pricey, well not the phone itself, it's the billing plan and what not that makes it pricey but still, it doesn't make it a bad product in it self, it's still a good product in my eyes, and so are all the other phones out there (Heck, I still use a really old Nokia phone and I have no issues with it, in fact the battery life is incredible!) it's really all about personal preference (Again) on what you chose and what you like to use. Which is why it's sort of strange arguing it, I mean I realize that if you think that something is better than another thing you would want to advice someone to get that instead of what they would otherwise get but angrily arguing about it is never going to help.

And there are the people that I just don't understand that just seem to be so stubborn that a company is so bad that they have to go about and parade over how horrible they are and literally insult anyone using something from them, this is especially prominent on places like Youtube, where you can upload any video you want, as unlocks this arguing to a new level really. At times the entire Mac Vs Windows PC (As an example, there are many of these "wars" around the internet) thing just gets utterly out of hand when people make personal insults and death threats to each others over something so utterly shallow as an OS, and besides what's the point of threatening someone that you will kill them when you, and the person getting threatened knows you won't be able to do it, rendering the thread useless.
Seemingly the internet is full of people who's maturity level is below a 12 year olds.
