Is it powerful enough to make small programs for my personal use (hex-based file editing, in particular)? C++ requires far to much for simple windows even to make anything quickly. So, I guess my question is, will I be able to easily learn VB (2008, if you're wondering) in a single afternoon to use for simple programs?

Alright. I'm having trouble finding a tutorial that isn't VB6, though. Microsoft documentation is all meant for absolute beginners, not C programmers.

I'm messing with a console app, and I cannot believe how simply it works. It's almost scary.

Why not use CLR with C++? Then you can use file routines that you're used to, and use the GUI dialog/form editor as well

Isn't CLR disabled in the Express edition? Besides, I'm enjoying this. It's so simple for writing basic programs quickly.

I've only experience with Visual BASIC 3, but that's an ace bit of software even if it is a big slow. Good for making simple editors, and tools like specialised calculators.
