Voice Acting Audition Thread

For screenshots of the game thus far: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=136867&b=25

Go down further for more information about OurHaus Industries, information about the project, and full character bios.

I know what you're thinking. "Why on earth should I help these guys out?". Well...you don't have to. This is OurHaus Industries first project. We have never made a game before ever. No previous screen shots from previous games. Nothing. Each of us have many years of experience with FPS Creator and in our given specialties. Because this is our first game, we're trying to build a reputation.

If you are interested in being a voice over for my teams upcoming game, post here requesting to be auditioned and download the contract/audition material. Be sure to include in your post:

1)prior experience
2)flexibility
3)voice range
4)whether you're male or female
5)nationality

Then post your audition. Allow 1-2 days response time

If I cast you to be a voice actor you will be bound by the contract of the position.

Here is what you’ll get in return:

1)your forum name or your real name mentioned in the credits
2)post an unlimited amount of urls of your choice for purposes of advertising in the credits
3)receive the game 2 weeks before I release it
4)receive the demo 2 weeks before I release it
5)receive any media that is not bound by copyright restrictions that are used in the game for free
6)receive a step by step strategy guide on how to beat the game

Here is the list of characters ready to be filled.

Character List

Douglas Mansfield
American, 50's. Rusty voice. Deep voice.

John Wilkes
American, late 30's. Bold, strong voice. Deepish voice, a bit raspy.

Sam Reeding
British, late 20's. Highish voice.

There it is. Roles will increase with time.

In order to keep an ever revising tab on people who will be auditioning, I will also be posting a “cast list”. This list will show who has been keeping up and being prompt as this is vital to the job. Here is the key to the list:

= you are doing fine
= where are you? (if no response in one day)
= I am waiting for you to post your audition
= I have sent you an email
= I have sent you an email with data

I sure hope people audition for this.

Hmm, there's not much of an incentive here. Will you be making money off this project? What kind of game is it. How many lines will there be? Is the game already completed? (No point in voice acting a game that's not even done yet)

This game is about 50% done although I do have all the dialog written already.

Money will not be made off this project. This game will be given away for free on www.filefront.com and at selected locations in the USA.

If you are interested in the games history and theme, then you can visit the Showcase thread that shows screen shots and a full storyline.

We need more information than that. How long has your team been together? How long has your team been making games? Has your team completed any games? Do you have any screenshots?

You just have three characters to do voice overs for? More roles will increase with time?

Listen... while I haven't produced any games yet myself, I at least know the order of game development. Audio effects are usually done last. It is true that the exception for that is voice overs, because they are done in tandem with the animation, but are you guys really going to lip sync the models? Do you have that skill set or technology?

Your post is professional and your passion is admirable, but... games aren't completed on sunshine power.

Our group has been going for about a year and this is our first game ever. Needless to say, were quite proud of it so far. We do not have the skills or resources to lip sync the models, but we will delve into animation for the characters.

"Roles will increase with time" means that more roles will be become available as time goes on. For males and females.

There is no set order to game development. Its an ever-growing theory.

We'd just like some extra help from whoever is willing to volunteer. That's all.

Got Screenshots? Demo? Do you already have a dialogue text system for your game in place? Voice overs should be done in tandem with text when ever you can due to accessibility reasons. Are you expecting people to use their crappy microphones for your voice overs?

Like I said, I respect the professionalism you guys carry yourself with, but the reason you guys don't have a huge turn out is we don't see what you have put out thus far. I'm not accusing you of anything when I say this, but why should we spend our time making voice overs if we don't know how you have spent your year of being together so far? How do we know this game isn't going to go under like so many other pipedreams on this forum?

Lets see some screenshots, maybe a demo, a checklist of what has been done and is left to do, and some dialogue excerpts that you would like us to read.

I'm sorry, but that first post is as useful to most people as me saying "I have a very deep and raspy voice" is to you. People need to experience things - they don't just believe your talks. The fact that you appear to not even have a full cast yet is rather disturbing, though.

Cough up some information about the work, the dialogue, the characters, anything. It might just increase your chances.

Well, why wouldn't people believe what I say?

Why would I be lying to people?

Sorry for the double post!

I don't know how you would know that.

Screenshots are in the link in the first post.
OurHaus is trying to bump up the date of the demo for you guys.

Here are full character biographies for all the characters listed.

Will this be all for people who are requesting more information?

I might do this for the hell of it.

Tommorrow is my god-given day off (I am self employed). You guys still want this?

Criteria: I can't do English accents. If you want to hear me, type in "Milk Paton and Manhunt" on YouTube. I do every voice in that except Robert, Mark and William.

Let me know if any of those are what you're looking for, and I'll help. Add me on MSN.

Post your audition and the other material as agreed upon in the contract. From there, I'll tell whether you make the cut.

Thank you so much.

Alright...is anyone even interested in doing this?

We were hoping to have more than enough people by now.

I'm pretty sure people on this thread explained why you don't have enough people by now.

I don't have a good enough microphone yet, so I can't help you out. Good luck.

You came here acting like you're a big "pro" game company with a "contract" etc yet you cant afford to pay anyone for their work and were pretty shirty when help was offered. Sorry kid. Better luck next time.

Its like Goldy or Irony, but made with shirts.

(Yes that was a shameless adaptation of the classic Black Adder joke. If you need me, I'll be in the corner weeping)

But seriously, I fully agree with Drew. You did come off a tad arrogant.
Maybe it was an attempt to seem more professional, but you were asking for help. Wasn't any need for this "Contract" "post your work here" "See if you make the cut" business.
