I know someone else made a thread like this, but that made me want to make my own.

Should I overclock my Geforce 7950GT? It came overclocked from 1400 to 1430 mhz for the memory clock and from 560 to 565 mhz for the core clock. I'm just afraid something will happen, and I have no dough at the moment!

Also, what do you think the default memory bus speed is for my card? And should I overclock that too?

My card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143071

Thanks.

In my opinion, if it came overclocked theres a reason why they stopped at 1430 MHz. I've never overclocked an already overclocked product for that reason. If you are though, search the net for someone whos oveverclocked your card, if you want to do it someones done it before.

A dream is a fantasy, if you achieve that fantasy it was never a dream to begin with.

Memory bus speed? I hope you don't mean the 256-bit spec.

Seriously, though, you should make fun of my 8600GT if that's your card. The 256-bit memory is the only thing that makes it faster. In all other areas, the 8600GT it more powerful.

And no, don't overclock it. I don't believe those do well with overclocking.

Um, not memory interface, memory bus speed. My interface is 256 bit, and my memory bus speed is apparenly 715 mhz. And by the way memory interface (I hear) makes a big difference.

I'm sorry to break this to you but it's not. The only thing that's faster is the core clock. I have a faster memory clock, more ram (512mb). I'm not sure what my memory bandwidth is, but if it was 22.4 gbps like yours, I'd know. Sure, you have direct x10, but you also need speed to use it. And by the way, that is the original price I payed for my card. Right now it'd probably be about $150. Still higher value than yours. A common mistake people make is that, if the card has an 8 at the beginning, it must be good. It's all in the specs, and the price will reflect that too. And I'm sorry to say, yours reflects it.

Now can we stop the graphics card competition?

I don't believe you even know what you're talking about.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Memory aside (the difference of which will only help at higher resolutions):

8600
Core: 620
7950
Core: 565

8600
Stream processors: 32
7950
PixelPiplines(outdated str.proc., by my knowledge): 24

At moderate resolutions, that makes a lot of difference in modern games.

You forgot:

8600
Memory clock: 870
7950
Memory clock: 1430

And put together with:

8600
Memory interface: 128bit
7950
Memory interface: 256bit

The above specs will probably give you nice jerks when walking into new places in your world.

I also found the bandwidth for my card:

8600
Bandwith: 24.8
7950
Bandwidth: 44.8

Actually, what helps that is memory. Do you leave 4xAA and 16xAF on at all times? No problem for my card, unless it's an ultra graphics game.
