you are talking about limbs and yes you can have each limb with an own texture or even fx
you first create an mesh of desired object shape and then adding the limb to your object from that mesh.
after that delete the mesh as it aint neaded anymore
and this can be done completely in dbp but as garion types
use an modeller instead

Wings 3D is simple and free.
TrueSpace and Blender are free, but far more complex. They are designed for high-quality, high poly modelling and animation, but can also be used for game models.

So, are limbs something you can add within the 3d modellor? Or do you need to create them from within DBPro?

BTW, I have modellors using 3ds max 9. I'll also do some google research on this :p

limbs are actually parts of a 3d models
so you can make two separate objects from one in DBP or vice versa..

UV mapping is what decides HOW the texture is mapped to the model
If you look at a skin for a character in a game, you'll see that all the different images for parts of the body are crammed into one texture. UV mapping is what decides which part of the texture image is mapped onto each part of your model/mesh.

Do it in your modelling program. DB isn't really designed for that sort of thing, nor is any programming language really. I don't know wings 3D, but I'm sure it's probably not too difficult to UV map an object

try getting TrueSpace 7.6 from www.caligari.com

It's free

If you do something 10,000 times. Your bound to get it right once.

ok, im just gonna stick with wings and anim8tor. when i make an object, it saves it as a .wings or .anim8 file. how can i get it into a darkbasic compatible format such as .x or .3ds?

in anim8or while in object mode go to object menu, there you can export either 3ds or obj.
you may want to look into fragmotion for animating and converting file formats. Fragmotion i have found to be the most consistent for
getting accurate x files into dbpro.
