I dunno what's going on but lately i have been getting a shit load of viruses and for some reason my virus scanner is acting like it couldn't give a toss it just warns me about the virus then that's it i have to manually delete them, i am currently running AVG antivirus latest edition it's a pile of crap!

1- Tone down your swearing.
2- Try AntiVir. It works for me.
3- Delete any messages you recieve from people you don't know, without looking at the preview pane; use KaZaA in limited amounts; make sure there isn't something spawning other viruses on your machine; virus check any other computers in your network if you use a network; be careful what you download.

I use AVG and never have a problem so long as you update the definitions regularly. Have you run the 'complete test' on whole hard disk?

Some viruses like bugbear require you to download special removal tools if they slip through the net, as they infect loads of windows files that most virus programs won't touch.

So long as you update at least once a week you should be safe. Problem there is that each update is multiple megabytes and users still with 56k modems won't bother.

Personally I have tried virtually every antivirus program going and rate AVG the best. Norton is easily the worst!

i always update cos im on 600k but it just tells me they are there and says run avg, i run it but it does nothing!

No, use Lite Enchanced. Lite is crappy, Enchanced I have heard has more features AND a feature to stop ppl from downloading ur files, so you can't be sued or w/e...

And kanzure, Lite has a feature where you can prevent people from downloading your files...it's called "Turn off file sharing" DUH...

Viruses do suck, dont they. One of em got past Norton and my Firewall, and infected one of my firewalls dat files. I managed to delete the virus, and restore my firewall back to normal condition, but heres a tip(I'm gonna try and do this too), have multiple virus scanning and virus blocking software on your computer. Now, just to find some good free ones, and get some permision from my mom (she doesnt want me to ruin my computer.)

At first glance, I'm a mediocre mech pilot. Look again and you will see my battlemech's computer code rushing through my eyes. My Mech And I Are One!

Yes, Icfcfan has the right idea - ZONEALARM. I used tiny personal for a while and it's kind of annoying, it still has lots of bugs that need to be worked out PLUS it's very intrusive that I noticed...

I once had a nasty porno virus that couldn't be deleted. McAfee finally found the infected file, and I was able to get rid of *some* of it. Then I found it modified the registry, so I modified it back, and then I also found it made an ActiveX control for some reason..so I deleted that..then..I opned up IE and it downloaded the hole thing over again! ARGH

Luckily some slimy bastard wiped my HD, which I didn't want, but oh well its deleted.
